Karma's AoE Mantra Shield Damage was the best thing about her, other than being able to heal! She changed a lot and she's fun now, but I'd take her R+E AOE damage over her R+Q damage any time! Pulling a clutch with Karma back when she could do that was the best feeling ever... Rip.
It wasn't only fun, it also did hold her kit together. When they removed it in 5.10 a few things happened:
Overall the removal of shieldbomb was a huge mistake that I have yet to see a Rioter justify. It is a shame.
It was honestly the most satisfying parts of her kit. It wasn't a primary offensive tool, but if you did kill someone with it, it felt good. It needs to come back, even at the expense of other power. It was truly unique to her.
Karma's play style as a whole was a lot more interactive when RE dealt damage. When they took away her Mantra damage they removed a lot of her decision making in a misguided attempt to make her a scaling support. Ultimately the result of their decision is that Karma is both a subpar Midlaner (lacks damage options) and Support (lacks unique utility), if she's ever strong in any lane she's likely stronger than she should be.
I hope Riot will bring back her RE damage at some point, sooner than later. It really was the best thing about her.
