What's the purpose of changing Morde's tag to Marksman?

No, seriously, what's the purpose of changing it? I remembered it has something to do with affecting the new Champ Select.

For us Mordekaiser mains to confuse our enemies. We shall hue after our opponents scratch their heads when we tell them Mordekaiser's new classification, in order to get the time needed to walk over to them to get first blood.

...unfortunately this will possibly only work the first time.

In the champion select search bar, you can type "marksman" and a list of marksmen will appear. By giving Mordekaiser the tag, he also appears when you search for marksmen.

How does Riot justify this decision when his basic attacks aren't ranged? That's the 100% sure-fire way to tell if someone is a marksman.

That's a great question that I can't really answer for Riot, but my best guess is that it's because he fills the position of a marksman and less so that he is a "marksman".

I mean, just because Morde can go bot lane and Riot wants him in bot lane, it shouldn't mean a reclassification. I've seen successful Jayces, Gnars, Yasuos, Twisted Fates, and Threshs in the ADC role - and only Jayce is a Marksman by class.

Also, unrelated, but Gangplank has a hidden Support secondary class in the shop.
