I wanna get out of Silver elo, but some things kept bothering me

BeatzBoyFTW·11/18/2014, 2:35:10 PM·2 votes·1,275 views

It's just that there are a couple of troublesome conditions that kept bothering me to rethink of playing rank games or not, so here are my lists:

1) Is it okay to main just the one lane?

I mean, yea I do play a lot of support lanes, so you can say it's my main role for it. But I also do have some courtesy to be a tanky jungler too, or maybe I wanted to do solo top and try to carry the team if my ADC didn't. Is it actually okay to main that one lane, or is it recommended to main more than one?

2) Are my bans worth it?

As all of you guys know, champs like Braum, Akali, Katarina, Lee Sin blah blah blah always seems to be excellent picks to be kicked off any rank matches. But now, the trouble is, is it recommended to actually keep on banning the exact same pool of OP champs here? Who knows the champs I selected to ban were nobody's mains for certain matches. It sounds ridiculous, but just wanna know if I am on the same page as you guys.

3) How the hell do you deal with AFKs/trolls?

I'm referring to the idiots who left the game after dying once, or if someone else gave away first blood (mostly it's the ADC, especially Vayne players). Did you guys actually still have the momentum to actually think of winning a game with 4v5 from the beginning? Or you guys rather just get along with it and play it like trassh just to get to that 20min surrender vote? This type of event keep recurring to me almost every match, and I had it. Reports can't do shiet. Trollers will just keep growing and growing.

4) How many of you high elos have smurf just to troll our games?

I will just assume half of them are just bluffing, and the other half are actual smurf trollers. I mean, why on earth would you create a smurf for? I'm pretty sure most of you aren't even Challenger yet, why gave up on your old account to move onto a new account? Where you have to re-purchase every single champions, & runes through tons of games, or using up all your parents allowance to grab your groove back into the game as a level 5 Wood Division account? This type of behaviour is pretty ridiculous if you ask me. If your reason is to hide off your identity for the sake of League Boards, then I understand. But for something like I explained here? That's kinda r%%%%%ed.

5) Should I be getting my Skype/Cursed Voice ready on each game?

I mean what are the possible chances you guys prepare your Skype/CV ready to talk to your stranger teammates. Or is it just the majority who knows how to handle their job solo along with a few helps of pings and "dude gank bot" kind of stuff?

  1. Yea its okay to main one lane. It does not mean that you will always get it. Keep a few backup champions in your pool.

  2. If you have problems playing against the champs, the its probably worth the ban. Here is a list of the highest ban ratios per champ. They have high ban ratios for a reason. Braum is no longer in a high ban priority, though he can still difficult to deal with against a siege comp.

Moral of the story is always ban fizz. He is really broken right now, his skills don't interact with champions properly, and he just bullshits himself out of any trouble.

  1. You ignore them. Don't worry about things you can't control, it just affects your game play. In low silver I found it easy to win a game with two people with careful decision making, and overpowered combos. It did not matter if all other lanes lost.

  2. people in diamond/challenger make up less than 4% of the entire player population, actually playing against a person of this level is relatively low. Don't worry about metal ranks, chances are it means nothing.

People in high elo's make smurfs because they want to have fun with the game. Their queue times can be several hours in length.

  1. I would not bother.

  1. Yeah, you can main a single lane, but that's not an excuse to be incompetent at the others. You should be able to play at your ELO in any lane, and getting your main should mean that you're capable of carrying your team.

  2. Ban whoever gives you trouble. Don't worry if it's a noob ban. If you can't dodge blitzcrank hooks, then ban blitzcrank. If you have a really low winrate against akali, then ban akali. Etc.

  3. Accept you aren't going to win every game, accept that every game cannot be carried by you and just do the best that you can do in every game. If you improve on a personal level then your rank will follow.

  4. Not as many as you think. There are a lot more low ranking players than high ranking, statistically. Challenger, masters, and diamond players comprise a very small percentage of the entire LoL population.

  5. Voice chat's only worth it if you enjoy it and if you benefit from it. I personally reserve voice chat only for friends. I keep it to text in soloqueue.

Imo, learn 1-2 champs a role, or ones that do multiples. Wu can mid top or jungle, for, example. Voice chat isnt important, imo, and can be a distraction. I got to gold twice only solo queuing as jungle with support backup. And on bans? Ban thing that stomp, not things that are meta bans. Silvers cant play Yas, so dont ban him. My main bans are things like kha, fizz, akali, blitz, champs that do absurd things or are pretty much always going to be picked and are hard to keep down.

Another tip is dont be afraid of brining out your non-meta faves. I do quite well on Naut and Diana while neither are regarded as good. Just get comfy, play smart, and have a good time.

  1. It's ok to have a main role, but you should always be prepared to fill. If you main support or possibly jungle, you can focus mostly on your main role, but if you main adc, top or mid you will not make it far if you don't learn to play at least one other role well.

  2. Ban the champions you usually struggle against that have a high chance of being picked. Remember though to also listen to your teammates and take their suggestions.

  3. You don't. You'll simply just have to suck it up, don't cry about it and move on.

  4. The chances of you getting an actual high-elo smurf put against you is pretty damn low. About 90% of all "smurfs" are people just trying to make others think they are good so they get their main role.

  5. I think I've been asked once ever to get on skype by a random. Unless you're duo queueing, it's not really necessary.

The answers provided are all good, I just would like to elaborate on trolls/afkers...

Staying positive is monumentally important to keep your sanity and your enjoyment of ranked. You don't have to make friends every game, but keeping things friendly makes it easier to criticize a play without coming off as a dick, and starting the down ward spiral of he says she says troll fest.

Accept that you cannot carry every game. As long as you are consistently playing well, you will notice the climb. On the other hand, after this you may realize that you are coming out of the laning phase 0-6 more often than you had originally thought. Many players will blame mistakes that other people make as poor skill/trolling, but mistakes they themselves make as a situation that they could not have avoided. Simple human nature but once you get past it you'll be in a better place to fix those mistakes.

1) Is it okay to main just the one lane?

19/20 Times I get support. I figure it'd be less for the other roles. Best to state your prefered roles and be competent enough to not feed at the others. Also, learn how to last hit.

2) Are my bans worth it?

Ban who you have trouble against or don't want to play against. My current bans are Swain, Khazix, Nid, Eve, Shaco, Fizz, Akali, Talon.

3) How the hell do you deal with AFKs/trolls?

Report and move on. Focus on forcing down towers and outrotating. Never fight unless under your own tower or you're that far ahead or have an ungodly wombo ( mumu, ori, yasuo for example).

4) How many of you high elos have smurf just to troll our games?

Not many to actually troll.

*5) Should I be getting my Skype/Cursed Voice ready on each game?

Unless you're duo, don't bother.

  1. Is it okay to main just the one lane?

-Yes, but you should still be able to play other roles without being dead weight. You can suck in lane phase, but still come back or contribute to your teams success. As long as you make good decisions you should still do ok.

  1. Are my bans worth it?

-Whenever I'm banning, I tend to pick safe bans, or bans that personally annoy me. If you're worried that you might ban someones main you can always tell everyone who you plan on banning. If they don't speak up it's their loss.

  1. How the hell do you deal with AFKs/trolls?

-It's frustrating for sure, but you can't control what other people do. Just report them and move on.

  1. How many of you high elos have smurf just to troll our games?

-I'm in Gold 3 and I've only ever encountered a higher level smurf maybe once. Most higher level players that I know don't smurf too much because the games tend to be boring for them.

  1. Should I be getting my Skype/Cursed Voice ready on each game?

-I duo with my buddy and we use Skype for every game. Though if you're just playing with randoms I don't see it as being necessary unless it's something that you feel will help you. It's all a personal choice. Though if you do this you need to be prepared to potentially deal with some angry mouthbreather.
