Please fix your game, Riot.

Recently, I have a hard time remembering when I last had a lot of fun in League of Legends. However, It's not because of the game, but because of the players.

The community has such a poor level of character these days. I used to have so much fun playing this game, win or lose. People were, generally, reasonable and nice. Although, that seems to be far from the case these days. I encounter so many unjustifiably nasty, harassing, trolling and immature people on a regular basis in this game now. I would play game after game and had a blast doing it. Yet, recently, I find myself thinking, "...that game was pretty disappointing and unfulfilling, it barely even felt like I got a chance to really play, maybe I'll play another.. No. No. I best not. It would probably just be another bad game with a toxic troll or a someone who quits or something... I should just go do something else because playing LOL will just upset me more since it would probably just be the same thing again"

...its funny, actually. I cam here to post a brief item voicing my concern and this board is already littered with people doing the same. Do you really not get it, Riot? Your game is being destroyed from the inside out - and by your own players none-the-less... Why aren't you doing anything?

I want so badly to have fun in this game again. All I know is, I need to cut ties if it doesn't change soon. I rather not spend my time and money on game that just bullies me constantly when I play it.

Unless I'm mistaken, I believe RIOT recently announced that they were implementing harsher penalties for bad behavior. It will take take for the toxic players to catch on, but enough bans will either fix toxic players, or at least it will frustrate them out of playing (being banned every other game is probably frustrating). I think RIOT's trying, but it's hard to change bad behavior.

Yeah, I know they are supposed to be developing a new system to better deal with negative player behavior ( http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/08/27/riot-tests-new-league-of-legends-insta-ban-feature ), but last I heard about it was over the Summer. How long is their plan's timeline? Have they already implemented it? If so, I really don't think it's working. I've played this game for around five years and this is by far the worst I can remember it being (again, due to the community, not the game itself). I just think a fire needs to be lit under Riot's ass because they just don't seem to get it. Like you say, changing player behavior can be hard - and I can understand that - but I think they need to do what it takes to get it done because before too long it's not going to matter.
