The upcoming vision/ward changes

For me, I don't like the vision wars. I like that they're innovating on it but overall I think the most positive thing would be reducing the whole mechanic as much as possible. I've seen jokes on Elohell.net and stuff about how bronze through gold think support wards and then like plat and diamond think jungler and support ward and then challenger doesn't ward at all. It makes sense. Challenger probably has a lot of guys that have extremely advanced map awareness so they rely on wards less or not at all.

If I had my way, it'd be reduced to only the trinkets they're proposing or maybe even only the clairvoyance-like trinket. A semi-spammable clairvoyance would push players to have better map awareness (mistiming the usage you have every 'x' seconds could get you killed) and is both offensive and defensive. Wards just encourage passive play and I'm quite positive Riot is very against that.

Overall, I'm happy to see these changes and am curious to see how they play. The above is just how I'd feel vision mechanics could be changed for the best but I imagine most players disagree.

if you watch the pro's they all ward. challenger too. that's more or less how i play. i don't like relying on just the support for warding. it's a big expense. and wards/vision in general can win games. i'm interested to see where they take the vision battle. but it looks like they're going for more strategery rather than the current vision battle

i play support a lot in ranked... and i dont mind the vision wars... nothing feels better than baiting a enemy pink with your explorer.. but that said.. if i get ahead its impossible for the enmy to get control of any area back as i can always afford more vision than they can ..

so overall i like the changes coming... and a little less vision will make jungling lot easier too which will be goodnd vise vers

While I get where you are coming from, because I think the vision war portion of the game is pretty boring (who places a ward into tri-brush and then calls gg because they feel so epic?) I'm not certain that removing it down to trinkets is the right solution at least not right away. I think that these vision changes might work as a good step into forcing players to have overall better map awareness. If it goes well and map awareness does improve in the community as a whole then I'd support the jump to just trinkets.

But I think doing it right away would cause to large of a learning curve/skill gap in between those that have strong map awareness and those that don't. Basically it would make it overly difficult to have a steady learning process into great map awareness for those that lack it, while giving an insurmountable advantage to those that already do. And that insurmountable advantage in vision is something that Riot mentioned wanting to limit in the post the made on the Dev Tracker forum (specifically they referenced the late game vision war being an arms race that becomes drastically one sided).

I'd be fine with ward removal in whole if it wasn't for certain abilities being capable of securing locations like traps and JitB and shrooms.

I play MOBAs for the character battle not surveillance challenges, and in the end it leads to the victor securing better surveillance with their lead, ward limit or not, they have freedom to clear and place.

But there are features that make minimal surveillance important, in order to prevent Hiemer and kin from having exclusive satellite observation, so I'm fine with that. I still feel that they should break down base level warding to motion detection which doesn't reveal object identity or allow them to be targeted though, and improve from there.
