Could "Support Mids" also have some fun scaling like the supports on the PBE?

The supports on the PBE are all being slightly reworked so their utility scales with AP. I think it'd be a lot of fun or more interesting if the other Supporty-Mid Laners like Orianna/Karma/Morgana, etc had their MS steroids, root durations, fling distance, etc scale with their AP. Obviously it'd have to be balanced, and their damage may have to be adjusted, but looking at all giant Janna shields and super speed MS steroids that the supports on the PBE are giving makes it seem like it'd be a great idea to include the mid laners in on the fun. Many of them are out of flavor anyways (IE Karma) and could use the attention anyways. :)

The supporty mid-laners ie; Ori/Lux/Karma/Morg/Nid are all fairly strong right now. They would have to be toned down in overall damage output for this sort of strength to be not over-powering. These sort of people don't always build ridiculous AP (more like m.pen and mana or off-tank) but, scaling could get out of hand if this were to change. A Karma who built RoA then BIG-AP would have damage, utility and a bit of chunk. She would surely be OP.

I would love to see this sort of design go through all champs but, it would require a massive amount of minor changes similar to a Pre-season patch.

Why? Because they're the reason these changes have to be made in the first place. One of the reasons people brought characters like Morgana/Zyra/Annie bot was because of A.) Better scaling and B.) Better Utility. Sure they didn't get much gold but they could use it more effectively than the supports.

If you give scaling utility to people like Mids, you are again gonna see people taking them bot instead of the supports (Unless, that is, they receive damage ratio nerfs in accordance). It's unfortunate but unless you make it viable for a support to go mid, then an AP utility can't go bot without outshining someone.

Would be nice but I doubt they can handle it.

I'd rather not have Nid be able to build pure AP as support now and ALSO getting a scaling on her attack speed buff.

sounds like a nightmare to re-balance. riot might do it eventually. but i doubt we'll see it from the start.

Like others posters said earlier, those champions are pretty strong right now; any buff in their abilities might cause that balance to shift to the OP side. Usually, people pick supporty mid laners because they have some damage that they can bring to the fight, on top of their utlility. Buffing their utlility by making it scale with AP would require Riot to nerf the damage on the abilities and would redefine their rle as a mid laner.

In theory yours is a good idea, but in practice, it is very hard to implement.
