Shouldn't Riven's shield scale with AP/HP, just like all other champions with shield does?

Just sayin. Even this unpopular guySkarner gets to scale with AP instead of %HPVi Sion

If it scaled off HP she'd have to build a tank item and we can't have our manaless tanks actually building a defensive item of any kind.

A shield scaling with the users primary stat isn't a bad thing. Sion's scales with health, Orianna's scales with AP. There is nothing inherently bad about an AD scaling shield.

Why shouldn't it scale with AD?

Okay so yeah...

The reason why Riven's shield scales by AD is because she is intended to build AD and have that shield. All that picking a specific scaling attribute does one of two things.

  1. Define build path to benefit from it. example would be Sion's health scaling. Nauts health scaling for defense value but ap for damage.

  2. Put it out of reasonable build path reach to effectively make it run off base numbers. Skarner's AP ratio would take this spot, he is never going to build deathcap to truly abuse it. (Shen'ish as well in this case)

This applies to a few other skills, like pantheons man drop and stun scale by ap even though you'd be insane to do that. Why do they even do this sort of design choice? Because it sorta feels weird to have an ability simply be unchanged by items and it lets them isolate those skills from the power budget when ahead or behind.

I disagree.
