Appropriate Trash Talking

League is a great game for two simple reasons.

  1. Anyone can play it given enough time and effort
  2. Its a highly psychological game if you know how to play it

On the second point I enjoy trash talking the enemy team. What is trash talking? If you don't know Trash Talk is harmless banter poking fun at weakness in play or decision making that is NOT intended to offend the enemy player. I see it every game people who don't know how to trash talk and end up just being abusive and mean. So I was curious as to your thoughts on Trash Talking and what are some of your favorite methods or ways.

My favorite is if I'm laning well and happen to be winning most of my exchanges with little damage I'll just politely type in all chat "Hey X you need to work on your trading, I'm taking very little damage" or if someone ults me and I barely take any damage just a simple "That tickled" Nothing coarse or rude just simple pokes. Trash talking CAN be a very useful tool if you're doing it right. Making an enemy tilt through good play and harmless jabs at their mistakes to make them more aware and less attentive is a deep part of why league is such a complex game its 50% skill 50% Knowledge 100% Attitude.

What are your favorite trash talks, or some examples of when people clearly didn't know the difference between Trash talking and harassment?

I see where your going with this convo. I was Heimerdinger in my last match. I died one 6/1/4 and my team started to trash talk me. I died cause I got ganked. They instantly started to go crazy on me. Than I started to get kills and they started saying, I was ksing. SO I dont understand sometimes these games. I try not to trash talk but sometimes when its like 4 ppl on my team being mean I say stuff back. So i see where you where going with this convo.

I agree with you, it really bothers me when people think things like "gg scrub" or "get fucked you noob" are trash talk.

What are your favorite trash talks

My favorite example is when my lane opponent has been trash talking me during the earlygame and I outscale him/her. I had a game a couple days ago as Tahm Kench against Olaf, where I died against him a couple of times because Devour is kind of buggy against Olaf's ult (it plays the animation and sound but does nothing). Both times he said something along the lines of "You really shouldn't be dueling Olaf 1v1", but I outscaled him shortly after and he went completely silent the rest of the game.

Good times.
