I'm putting it all on the line - My account, my lissandra threads and everything just for this post

Yeah I'm serious. I'm going to stop all threads that speak about how Freelo Lissandra is if you can help with this. And I'm prety sure I may get banned for posting this topic but we can't keep ignoring this. Sure I could create a smurf account and post this but what's the point hiding.

So me and my friend (won't say his name) were talking about League stuff before we started discussing about the Legend of Korra.

More specifically the ending. Now we were cool with the ending of Legend of Korra (even though I admit I didn't think Nickelodeon would actually end it like that) and a thought came up. (Okay spoilers here. STOP if you haven't watched Korra.)

If two people of the same sex can be together, why can't a brother and a sister?

Immediately, I was against it. And I voiced it out...LOUD. I was like, "Dude seriously. It's your sister". Then he brought out a point. He said, " Isn't this the same reaction that happened to people of different races, and is now happening to people of the same sex. Won't this argument continue? "

Immediately I backed. He raised a good point. If I was to bring in details like the law would forbid it, he'd mention how the LGBT is slowly reforming the world into tolerating their beliefs.

But then another question was raised. What is the difference between tolerance and acceptance? It's one thing to tolerate stuff to not be insensitive. It's another thing to accept things because you agree with it. It's another thing to also accept things because of social pressure.

So here's where I'm at. Currently my views on Incest is a big NO. Will I have to change to accept what may happen or am I just going to be viewed as the bigot who doesn't accept "change" and "evolution" and should just climb a mountain and live alone. Or should I accept it as life will keep changing. But I feel if I do this, I'm denying myself the right to voice my opinion.

Honestly, I don't know.

Anyways we argued about it for a bit but decided to drop it since it wasn't getting anywhere. But i've been reflecting on it all day and I can't think of anything.

Incest is actually avoided for good reasons, believe it or not. Inbreeding causes the frequency of deleterious alleles to rise in a population (this is an oversimplification, it primarily causes the number of individuals born with two copies of recessive alleles to rise due to the increased likelihood of carrier parents mating). It's a well-documented thing in evolutionary biology.

You can see it in history, too, in royal lineages. Every once in a while, you'll find one with some deformity that gets worse and worse over time due to inbreeding. I'll have to see if I can find some examples and get back.

Edit: Look up the term "inbreeding depression".
