The surrender votes usually start long before that, but none did. I don't know why, but my team kept optimistic and we didn't throw our victory away.

Ranked or normals?
Ranked I agree never surrender. But normals? Hey nothing is fun about getting stomped. And even if we manage to stall out the game and even out the gold, i'm probably using a champion I barely know how to play (which is why I play normals, to learn new champions) so even getting to late game where one slight mistake can mean victory or defeat, the chances of me screwing up on a champion I have only played twice before are 100x greater than with a champion I am experienced with.
