This Community Needs This Reminder

What happened to league? This is not my video, but i could not agree more, League used to be about fun, and the journey to a win or a loss, not the actual outcome itself, it used to be about discovering new things, and not worrying about what others thought, it was about skill, and team play, not counter picks that make a champion utterly worthless, or picking the most OP champion that changes a game completely and making it one sided. It was about logging on and being with fellow minded players all wanting the same thing, and if you did win, it was so satisfying, and it made you want more, now a days, most wins don't feel like a win anymore because the journey to get there was filled with hate, and cockiness and just ill play.

There used to be a way to come back, no matter how long the game went on, you still had a chance, now that is so unlikely, people are so clouded by winning that they flame and try to hurt others knowing damn well they only get away with saying anything because they are behind a monitor, matches are over in the first 10 minutes, sometimes by the champion picks, sometimes by decisions made in lane, but most of the time is decided by attitude of the players.

I used to log onto league aching to have fun, no matter the outcome, to try new things, and now i can't log on without expecting someone to troll, or afk, or to rage and yell and scream and insult people, yes you can mute them, but the issue is not what they say while muted, the issue itself is that they had to be muted in the first place, and you know even though you can't see it, they are still insulting on, and telling everyone to report someone, and calling everyone garbage and trash and worthless and useless.

It is sad to think that you have to expect this now, and that people just tell you to get over it, and that it's just how it is, when in fact, it wasn't like that, people used to say "GG" as an actual compliment to the game, saying it was a good match, and fun, now people use it as an insult and say "gg ez". There is so little sportmanship now. It is just sad that people think this is "normal" , this is not normal, this is not the League we all used to play, this is not the League we all fell in love with.

League was about coming together as a community, and now even top youtubers just flame eachother, saying their content is better or worse, instead of coming together to create truly amazing content. Yes there are some youtubers trying to bring everyone together now, but the only way to help that is to spread the word. I am trying to do that now, i want the old league community back, i want that feeling back for league, i want to log on and be happy to lose to the other team because they were better, and played smarter, and for them to be good sports about it instead of rubbing it in. The best way to do that is for the community to come together once more, only then can we be great again, only then can we change.

League will always be League, sure the meta will change, mobs will change, champs will be unbalanced and OP, items will change but remember, Riot controls the game, they do not control the community, that lies strictly in the communities decisions, sure they monitor toxic behavior, but that is it, we have total freedom of how we decide to interact with each other. Our community creations are fantastic and silly, Star Guardian Urgot, i mean come on, please Riot, make it happen, all our League Youtubers are all amazing, they take time out of their day to create silly videos for us to smile at, but when it comes to playing the game, the community falls apart, and forgets what the game is truly about, FUN, and the journey to the end result of a match.

This community has forgotten this, and it needs to be rediscovered.[slayer-jinx-wink] Peace out!

[1:23] "There was no team comp that was better"

This is how I felt in season 3 (in my opinion)

You picked your champion. You played. You had fun. Now, you have a champions that if they are even on your team you feel like you will instantly win just because they were picked.

AND YEAH

I build berserkers on Katarina because I didn't know there were any other boots AND YES...I dont own traditional karma because I DIDNT EVEN KNOW THERE WERE OTHER CHAMPS....but that was when i became hooked onto this game. That was when it was fun. When I fed, people cheered me up. I made friends...sigh...

We really shouldn't be so rude to each other.

It kinda sucks seeing this video on the front page at least 5 times over the years. Maybe one day we wont need it.

i remember that i think my first game i played brand and thought he was useless or it might have been ashe, where i only built dorans blade and still had 2 potions at the end f the game i remember saving for infinity edge on every character, because it was the most expensive, so it must have been the best

No this community does not need to be reminded, we have been reminded enough, I don't give a shit what you think of the game, stop ruining it for everyone who is having fun by complaining over and over on the boards.

Totally agree man! Hope it comes back :3 I'd love to play and not have to worry about being flamed for actually having fun more then killing everything in sight. Glad someone finally put it into words what has become of the community of league. Toats the best wishes of it actually going back to the old community it was when I first started playing. I both like and dislike this video... it even was part of inspiring me to write on the subject some time ago: http://www.shadowedblade.net/2014/05/muses-the-toxicity-of-the-internet/

there are good parts to the video and it has a good message, but I strongly disagree with the most basic premise it has: the assumption that the community truly is that toxic, is that negative, is so horrible that it warrants the level of pessimism shown in the video

Now, admittedly, I don't know that I'd actually consider myself a part of LoL's community to a big extent anymore. I poke my face into the esports articles every so often and talk about PB matters from time to time...

But I just can't buy that since I stopped playing a while back(~1 year ago if I had to guess)... that since then it's somehow gotten 100 times worse.

Online communities are interesting beasts, and - outside of smaller, more centralized communities - the majority of them are largely the same. They're full of essentially ordinary people... they're just created in such a way that there isn't a lot of self-awareness. People generally don't see the impact of their actions, and thus it's easy to forget about that impact and act a little bit more aggressive or angry than you might otherwise show.

But the people are essentially nice, and if you focus on noticing the good and assuming the best about people, you probably won't be disappointed.

Edit: as far as the 'team comp' stuff goes... that's the logical progression of any semi-competitive event. Early on, people don't know what they're doing so just mess around. As people begin to understand more... you start seeing a defined set of 'successful' strategies emerge. And, if you wish to compete, you have to at least somewhat conform to those strategies, OR find the counter to them. If the latter, you may well define the NEXT 'successful strategy' to become prevalent yourself.

Actually that antisocial behaviour is not only a problem in League. It is more likely a problem of the society. I could puke everytime someone speaks just with pure hatred about refugees (I am from Germany) instead of looking at similarities.

Damn. That's pretty heavy.
