Hextech Chests may have diminishing returns on skins

I have been getting more Champion Shards than Skin Shards, recently.

Out of ten boxes, 7 were champion shards and 1 ward skin, 2 champion skins.

This ratio has never been this bad for me in the past, but since I own quite a few skins already, I had thought to myself that there could be a diminishing returns system for the # of available skins left to win via Hextech Chest. It could include factors like skin price, skin release date, etc.

It just seems to me that I have never won a skin that was released recently unless I have purchased the chests during an event such as 2016's Snowdown Showdown (a very good event, imo). Chests were once very good to me in the past but now are not so good. Has there been changes that anyone else has noticed?

I've noticed this sort of change as well, I receive Champion and ward skin shards the most. Whenever I do get a skin, It's typically a pretty bad one below 970. However, I think the idea of getting free skins, in general, is Riot being pretty generous considering the game is Free-to-play and they make most their revenue from Skins and the LCS. I would like to see a better drop rate on Key Fragments though.

It happened to me as well, around 2 months ago I started to get a lot of champ shards and got a ward skin too, I was really angry and then boooom Elementalist Lux. Same thing happened to my friend only he got Spirit Guard Udyr. As for the fact that you have a lot of skins already, it plays a factor I believe, I used to watch youtube videos of some guy who had like 250 skins already and he bought hundreds of boxes and at first he got a lot of skin shards, but as he came close to owning all the skins he started to get at least 70% champ shards, icons and ward skins.
