Way more accurate by adding Legolas into the movie, creating Tauriel when she's not even a character in any of the books, adding a weird love interest between Gandalf and Galadriel, making Azog the Defiler into the main antagonist when he's only briefly mentioned in the books. Yeah.

Legolas was never specified as being in the Hobbit or not, but given that the dwarves + Bilbo were traveling through Mirkwood - Legolas's realm - it's not too far-fetched to suggest that he was involved in the events.

Tauriel is a fictional character, but I see nothing wrong with her inclusion. There's a lot of empty space in The Hobbit, and I don't think her being in the movies has affected them adversely.

Gandalf and Galadriel are hardly acting in love, but apparently treating a lady with respect is something that the younger generation has missed.

In all honesty it would have been better for them to use Bolg, Azog's son, as the main villain, but I can understand the decision-making process behind his inclusion as a primary antagonist. Mostly a non-issue.

The real problems with the movies lie in overly-long action sequences and outright fabrication of events (trying to drown Smaug in gold? The whole stupid Tauriel/Fili romance thing?) Get mad at those, not with small additions that make an overall better product.

Tauriel frustrated me because of the made-up romance. And as far as the Gandalf and Galadriel romance, it seemed like it in the first movie, at least a little from what I remember. Not sure what that has to do with the younger generation. It's not a non-issue to make an entirely made-up storyline through 3 movies when Azog is supposed to be killed by Dain. I do agree that Bolg should have been the main enemy, since he leads the Moria orcs in the book anyway. My point is they added unnecessary things to make it into three movies. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the movies. But calling them accurate is a stretch.

Homophones are words that sound the same but mean different things, for example: there, their, and they're or hear and here. The director saw the "homo" part and immediately thought it was about gay people when in reality, the prefix "homo" merely means "same". So "homophone" basically means "same sound". In the article, he even admitted to having to look the word up to know what it meant. This coming from a director of a school that specializes in teaching English.

Homophones are among the first things taught to those learning English.

I have to agree with your point. When I was in middle school (and even high school), some people didn't even know basic geography, where Africa was or where the Pacific/Atlantic Oceans were located at. Awareness of what happens in other countries was also pathetic. I just don't understand how people didn't know these basic things and it shocks me to see how ignorant some of us can be, especially since we lived in NYC, an extremely diverse city where people come from all sorts of places.
