Vel'koz needs Sightstone more than other Supports, because he only has one eye and needs a second just to keep up with the vision that most other champions have by default. Don't even get me started on Yi and Jax!
I think that's what annoys me most about people going damage supports. I can care less what you build. Just please get a damn sight stone. Not just for the laning phase. Because it IS possible to survive laning phase easily without it. But when all these skirmishes and team fights start breaking out, lack of vision can/will be disastrous. Yes the team will help ward. Pinks here and there and the trinkets help. But that's just 1 ward as opposed to the 3 you can place when you get a damn sightstone.

enemy is sitting at 19 kills and Velkoz is raging at Lee sin and I asking why we're not building tanky....
Riven and Lee sin are 1 of 5? 6? champs in the entire game that only scale off AD and have some of the highest ratios in the game, every item i own is tanky, and he's asking why the 19/2 Kog is melting our faces because we suck at life. Meanwhile he has 0 defence items, no sight stone, and is building straight AP with no supp item.
get out of my support pool until you find a dictionary and are capable of understanding the meaning of the word SUPPORT. until then, i'll be dodging every team builder game that looks even remotely sketchy from now own since this game was followed by a crushing loss with a support

A good support will buy a sightstone no matter what champion they're playing. The one(s) you encountered that didn't buy it probably don't normally play that role.
Vel koz is my favorite support. I use the arclight skin and I buy sightstone in-game. I also ward more than the enemy support in most of my games.
I guess that means the message isn't directed at me, and I understand how frustrating it is when people dont ward, but if you ask most people will oblige.

sightstone is core for support. If you don't buy one you're cancer.
Not to mention Vel can just rush a punch of pen and do huge damage early-mid. Plus you need those wards to not get fucked by ganks, meaning a soul stealer won't be out of the question if you're crushing lane.
Battlecast looks better anyways. The sound and particle effects on arclight look better, but as for the actual character model itself, Battlecast comes out on top IMO.
