I've always seen people posting about elos that they do not deserve, succh as having 8 wins and he ended up in Bronze 4. I had a close friend of mine, who only won 5 games and ended up in Silver 3.
So is it like, not only by winning provisional games, but is your future elo is also determine on your last season's MMR, or the least amount of toxicity in your game chat? Or is there something else?
I have no Idea to be honest. I wasn't in my house when I played my provisionals, I was on a trip so I played in gaming house and well...I lost 8 out of 10 because I can't play well without my chair, mouse and keyboard, and guess what? I got placed into GOLD3. My last season MMR was around 1800 and was in Platinum5
It takes into account your previous season's MMR, but it places you a bit lower with the idea that if you're good enough you can climb up.
Enough to have a high enough MMR to be placed there. It's not just how many games you win.
Yeah it's all mmr based, and you get placed in the division that corresponds to your mmr after your 10 placement matches which are particularly influential to your mmr. Since your mmr changes depending on who you play against, winning 5 in a row and then losing 5 in a row could potentially produce a different placement to someone who alternately lost one, won one, lost one, etc, and other influences like duoing can influence the mmr of the players involved to ultimately produce a different placement too.
In preseason your ranked mmr is basically averaged with a silver 4ish mmr, so the high end players likely find themselves needing to climb back up (and prove themselves in the new season meta), while the particularly bad players are given a boost up in case the only reason they're there is because of 'elo hell' (and of course in most cases these players promptly fall back).
