What to do if your friend wants to start playing LoL.

I started playing LoL late season 4 and consider myself to be pretty decent at the game- better than most who play for that long, at the risk of sounding arrogant. I can attribute this to one thing.

I did not play blind pick until I had played for 2 weeks.

I started playing League at a camp after this conversation happened:

Person 1: blah blah blah nidalee nerf blah

Person 2: blah blah blah this champ got buffed blah

Me: Guys what are you talking about?

Person 1: League of Legends.

Me: Teach me.

For two weeks I 1v1d that person. I was taught to itemize, to conserve mana, and various other things that the tutorial doesn't teach you. The week after I played blind pick under the persons guidance, and that got me where I am.

So, let me get to that point. If your friend wants to play LoL, PLEASE don't just put them in blind pick with 9 strangers and give them a "glhf".

Spend some time to teach them the basics.

I'd say I had similar success when I first started because I queued tutorial, then beginner bots, then intermediate bots. I didn't try blind pick until I'd played about a week and could handle intermediate bots.

People who go straight in to pvp aren't going to be as good. There should be some sort of warning the first time you try pvp: "you haven't beaten intermediate bots yet, are you sure you want to test yourself against more experienced players? ". Let the smurfs or other moba players go straight to it while informing the new players that they may want to practice a bit first.
