When trying to learn a new charater at what point do you give up?

So Yasuo is free this week so I though.. oh cool lets try him.

As you do take him to a bot game... oh ok so that is how that works.. thats really kind of cool seems more fun than I expected.

Play my first game against people in a normal match.. 0-7-1... team rage surrender at 20 "Sorry guys its my first game"

Second game normal match... 2-8-2... went 0-7 before I got my first kill 14 deaths before a kill :S. I had to turn down a few surrenders before I got it. I was at least able to farm this game so when late game came I did damage. but the game was already lost by that point.

should I just never play him again?. clearly he doesn't work for me... or does above count as improvement

Usually when I want to practice a new champion, I make a custom game of me and my bot teammates vs Intermediate bot enemies. An example of this is like:

Let's say I wanted to practice the reworked Ryze:

My team: Ryze Soraka Blitzcrank Zilean (only Blitz is Intermediate) Enemy team: Darius JarvanIV Karthus Ezreal Nidalee (All except Karthus is Intermediate)

With this match, I'll be able to practice him quite well, and manage to get a lot of kills. However, the point of this practice match isn't about how many kills you can get in how many minutes. It's about:

getting used to his combos.
knowing all of his cast times & cast range
trying out different builds.
estimate on how much damage on certain combos/enemy you can try out.

It worked wondrous for me. Last time I was new to Yasuo like you are, I did this practice, and got myself 7/2 as top lane Yasuo.

He is extremely mechanically intensive, he is not new player friendly at all and you are going to do terribly the first set of games you play. However, practice enough and you will eventually get good with him. It's going to be a grind, but he is incredibly fun to use once his combos come natural to you.

As much as I personally dislike CertainlyT champions, I have to admit, the man knows how to make a champion that is enjoyable and exciting to play. I have found out this week I actually like Zed more than I thought I would.

to learn a new champion, you should plan about 200-300 games with him to understand the basics. after about 50 games you can decide if the champ is still a fun concept for you and you want to keep learning him, after 200 games you can decide if the champ actually can do what you thought he could possibly do if played correctly and after 500 games you can say you probably understood half of the basics of that champion and can now call yourself "darius player".

also, when in full honesty you are trying to learn a new champion, you shouldnt look at your KDA or your winrate but only at how can you efficiently LEARN the champion and explore his limits every game anew.

also, you should probably decide upon which 3-4 champions you want to learn instead of picking a new one every week its free. surely if you want to have fun, you can have fun with yasuo after 5 games. but if you are looking to acquire skill, you have to realize that having 30 games with 70% winrate on a champion doesnt mean you understood him, it means you had a lucky run and you will get destroyed some time later, but giving up on the champion always means giving up on a part of yourself.

I may get hate from this but: If you think he is a cool concept, and a champion you really want to learn, make a smurf, save up for, and buy that champ (you could use the 400 free rp you get at level 3 to buy yas whenever he goes on sale). Then grind out nothing but that champion. You wont have runes, masteries, or all of the summoner spells, so it puts an emphasis on the champion's mechanics and bases (warning, do not jungle!). Once you have a solid feel for how to play your champion in every part of the game, go back to your main account and play against better people with runes and masteries. It'll feel much easier than going in blind.

And if you still feed constantly 20 games after that, then maybe move on.
