Jokes aside, buying a Thornmail probably wouldn't be too bad of a purchase if you are dying too much as an ADC, especially Ashe. Ashe has a lot of utility that makes her useful to her team even when she is behind, and it doesn't sound like you needed a lot more physical damage since you had a Yasuo on your team.
Thornmail is by no means good on an ADC, but it's a relevant idea if you are afraid of blowing up in teamfights due to physical damage. Then again, there are also better options for your defensive item (ie. Guardian Angel, which would be a lot better option than Thornmail).
You don't get blown up instantly by physical damage, so you can survive longer to deal damage.
Admittedly, there are better options than Thornmail for ADCs (such as 
), but Thornmail can work against an autoattack reliant team when you have Bloodthirster for lifesteal and the shield.
You don't deal any damage when you are dead. If you are dying to quickly in fights, building a defensive item can let you deal more damage than an offensive item; you live longer, so you can deal more damage over the duration of the fight.
If like 4 or all 5 of the enemy are Auto attack heavy champs...then Thornmail would be a good idea.
If they are mostly spell base physical damage.... would be the better choice.
