If you mean so that you have a thumbnail that shows up on the forums page where they click to get to your actual thread, just put a link at the beginning of your thread, only with there being no text that people usually use so that it can be clicked on.

For example, a normal link looks like this:

google

which actually looks like this when you type it out:

[google](http://mobilemarketingwatch.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Is-Google-Searching-for-the-Next-Big-Thing1.jpg)

If you want a picture to show up in a thumbnail in this case, you would just remove google so that no words show up, like this:

When in reality (there is something between this and the last paragraph, trust me, you just can't see it), you have written this:

So now if I have that in the beginning of the entire thread, no text shows up but since the first picture linked or shown is shown as the thumbnail, that picture is still used for it.

I might not be laughing fish, but I hope it helped. (Also, sorry if this is overexplained, I am used to doing that as an IT tech and programmer.)

The thumbnail of your thread will be the very first image posted in the thread. If you want the thumbnail to be different, just follow the directions in Airman CompSci's comment. http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/aceattorney/images/9/96/AAI_Miles_Edgeworth_Bowing.gif/revision/latest?cb=20130630180446
