Overwatch dominates PC Bangs now. According to Gametrics Overwatch holds a 31% market share vs. League's 23% (League hadn't dropped below 30% since 2012 or so.)

Google trends for MOBA games has been declining since 2013.

Generally, while the game is far from dead, it's certainly not as popular as the hayday/peak of 2012-2013

ok but the game isnt really in any threat of "dying" yet it still has and enormous player base and overwatch didnt kill it... so my meme isnt wrong :P

Overwatch actually did quite a bit to hurt League. There's a pretty sizable list of former League personalities that have left League and play Overwatch (and other games) now. Those personalities also tend to take a portion of their fanbase with them when they quit.

You can't kill League in one stroke, it's too big of a monster for that. However, Overwatch did draw a sizable amount of blood. Combine that with players that are very unhappy about how season 6 went down, and those wounds are bleeding right now. Riot doesn't seem to be alarmed at that; or maybe they don't even notice since they're so busy making skins to grab more RP from us and balancing the flashiest champions for pro play.

If a serious wound isn't bandaged, even the biggest beast will bleed out from it. If Riot doesn't stop the bleeding, it's going to be a slow death. Death that will have been caused by a number of things, including Overwatch. Overwatch might indeed kill League yet, but not for another couple of years at least.

when Overwatch was relesaed everyone was posting "im quitting for Overwatch", "Overwatch gonna kill league", "league is trash compared to overwatch", etc... however it didnt really effect league at all and OW is actually falling off now(at least in stream numbers)... that was the joke nothing to be taken seriously

According to forbes league now has a smaller share of the market than overwatch. I assure you it had an effect. League went from ~40% of the market to ~27% with OW ticking just past it to 28%.

in 2012 they had 30M people, in 2014 they had 27, i wonder how many they have in 2016.

Still, not so long ago (a month?) a Rioter said something like "We can't give you stats, but I saw them and I assure you the number of players is growing".

League is still somewhat stable right now... WOW is on its last legs... but yes league will follow wow's fate in a few years(it will be where wow is now in a few years then will be shutdown a few years after that so like 6-10 years)...however, the thing that will help league is its very large esports infrastructure

League is basically the raid boss of PC games. If OW is gonna kill it it'll take awhile. The game is still fairly new and has a pretty small character roster. Not to mention league is easier to access due to being F2P (which is where Blizzard went wrong instead of just selling cosmetics..) the game is gonna need more before it can do anything to league.
