Well it's true. Warding is one of the support's major jobs. Everyone may start with a warding totem (which can be upgraded) but its limited by a loooong cooldown and you can't buy any more wards. The support (maybe jungle) will likely be the constant source of vision in mid-late game. Ultimately, the support covers your team's ass through vision, and utility. Selfish supps can eat their hearts out.

Actually no. the entire point of the warding trinket is to spread the job of warding out to the whole team. Even sightstone only allows three wards, thus the rest of the team, if they want good vision, need to also use their warding trinkets to ward where the support hasn't.

(Edit): That's also why Riot allows only a limit of three wards for each player on the map at any given time.
