Honestly I play Zyra

It's not so much about zyra as taking pride in kill misplacement,if you want kills don't play support.

because half the time in silver my adc is completely incapable of killing anything, and it's painful as hell if I'm on a low damage support. I love Leona/Janna, but I just had too many games where I felt totally helpless as my adc fed like mad.

Don't worry,as you'll advance you'll get plenty of games on zyra where you will feel completely helpless because your opponents aren't completely incompetent and know how easy zyra is to punish,but that's quite a distance ahead of you,ever considered blitzcrank?

A good adc will still get the kills from a Zyra support, but with a bad one Zyra can still finish them off if the adc isn't putting out anything.

Eh that's not true,in a chaotic fight even a good adc will have a hard time taking all the kills(especially from zyra),the problem here is again: you shouldn't be happy about kill misplacement,you don't want to get kills on a support,if it happens then so be it,but it is still something you want to avoid.
