There is a reason they removed self-healing items for mages.

Ultimate deals almost 1000 true damage with no stacks.
Protobelt to anyone with less than 1000 health, instakill, then clean up the rest of the team with instant 5 stacks -> 2000 true damage ultimates and they instantly die one by one.
Not to mention that Hemorrhage would deal 300 damage per stack for a maximum of 1500 damage over the duration.
Since Q and R will scale with AP, his E will scale with AD and he still have 2X crit chance:

Edit: I do not want to imagine to have his attacks crit with magic damage along with Luden's Echo and the extra damage will be amplified by Lich Bane.
