My guess its more about it being a cross AND throne which for some is a huge deal (not sure why but its people). These are simply crosses which the symbol itself isn't a bad thing.

Probably the fact that it was a cross on a throne specifically. The mixed symbolism there could have a few different meanings they probably don't want to project.

Yeah, but... who cares? You can still slow them and still poison them. So you don't want to waste fling popping it but meanwhile, they're still dead.

It also really messes with Chogath ... especially against mobile champions Since then you don't really have a way of landing your Q since you can't silence them first and then they will just use their mobility to avoid the Q... and he likely won't get in range to use his R (or E for that matter)
