But Aatrox, for most of his life... has not been meta :(

Edit: Wait a minute... Meta Knight was SS tier once, Aatrox was S tier once then Meta Knight became B tier and Aatrox became B tier. Okay I stand corrected, Aatrox is basically Meta Knight loool.

Aatrox was never S tier.

This.

When he was released he was as close to S tier as possible. He had very few hard lane match ups in the meta and could bully/dive consistently. Only problem was whilst popular and rampant in soloq, it took longer to get into pro play where the nerfs would soon catch up and at that point he quickly started to die down.

Strangely enough, he was used more in S4 than in S3. Not sure if it was because of the patch in which he was released was near the end of the year and A) players didn't get to test him out extensively enough to bring him pro play or B) the nerfs caught up quickly and he was dropped almost immediately but... that's what happened. Oh could also definitely be C) he was a bad champion - but i think most people remember his insanely strong laning phase and transitioning into other stages of the game as a lifesteal bruiser.

Aatrox was never, and I mean absolutely never, S tier. Like, it just hasnmt happened.

He was close to pick or ban on release (even in pro scene) because he was an overtuned lane bully that could squash any normal matchup and had excellent dive power.

Then they gutted him and people realized that other champs did his job better the minute his stats were normal.

Not really.

I'm not sure if you've actually looked at his patch history? He's barely been patched at all. No real guts, no buffs either.

He definitely wasn't pick or ban. I was there. I was watching the pro scene. He just did what other champions already did well.

It didn't take much to tip him from overtuned to trash tier, and people also learned how to play around him after a couple patches.

I remember he was really popular in EU for the first bit at least, maybe less so in NA.

Meta knight was actually good at one point tho.

This gave me a good laugh. Take my upvote. But they have a big difference. Meta Knight is completly broken on Smash. Aatrox, not so much.

Well, if they rework Aatrox's q like Garen's E in URF + give it a knock up, he'll be just as annoying like Meta Knight with his tornado and certainly will be broken.
