The first picture is what I prefer to do as a jungler. Short of your bot lane being below 25% health (or completely unaware of your presence), the first strategy usually works. You don't really need river warded or a red sweeper for this tactic. Often you'll at least blow summoners or get a decent amount of poke in to force them out of lane. Try to time the gank with your minion wave to force them to lose out on CS.
As for the second picture... depends on the champions involved. If you don't have anyone on the team that can eat turret shots (Sejuani, Amumu, Alistar, Leona)... why even try? High risk, mediocre reward.
Lane ganking isn't a bad move either if someone has picked up the red sweeper. It's pretty pointless to wait in a warded bush for the lane to push out. There's also the instance in which you are trying to bait the enemy jungler so that you can pull off a very quick 3v1 while the enemy bot lane is farming under tower.
