Over Innsmouth2 votesAnyone with a BT automatically outheals him. You actually have to land your ult on more than two targets for a good heal. 2k+ healing is only possible under ideal conditions (full build with heavy AP + Elixer and Baron, health in double digits and Crimson Rush).
He's also short-ranged, has an atrocious early game if you don't just let him Rush you over and over, and his two primary damage tools are highly telegraphed.
To me, it sounds like he's banned because people arent actually learning to play against him. His counterplay is pretty fuckin' accessible.

Spizzle90001 votesYou're damn right here. He's like Darius in a way, except with a miserable early game (if you know how to walk away from him): he's got his little zone of pain, and if you stay out of it, you win.
Not to mention even when I have full build with Baron, Elixir, Elder Drag with Infernal Drag, Spirit Visage, and super low health, my third Q heals around 1.5k. Ult isn't nearly as good of a heal as third Q because of the long delay, although it's very nice.

I was spectating somebody playing Liss mid. She's supposed to be a hard counter to assassins. She misplayed once. There was no going back, the Fizz was legendary and could 1v1 anybody by 15 mins.
The Fizz in the story was lv 7 (Mastery) and began hounding the other lanes for kills as soon as he greyscreened Liss or sent her back.
And no, it wasn't me, I don't play Liss. Tried it once and lost to a Volibear, to this day I'm ashamed.

The best way to deal with Ryze isnt to straight up fight and outsustain him, cause you're not going to. Treat him like Swain; force an extended trade that brings you to a sliver of health but also drains their mana. Proceed to heal up off minions and using Rush on jg camps (you get the full heal on Rush from jg monsters) until you can safely trade again. Repeat until they run out of mana and then kek your way to the blood bank as you show them what it means to sustain.

It happens man, that's what new experiences are for; learning. Granted, Ryze is also busted as fuck and it's not really your fault if you lose to him. It's like losing to Fiora immediately after her update, or Irelia right now, or Fizz all the time - there's not a whole lot you can do when you're against bullshit like that.

Over Innsmouth1 votesIf I'm not feeling too confident with my Vlad for whatever reason (or he's fucking banned), I'd take Maokai top against Ryze. He's reliable, a decent-strong pick in basically every match up, and Ryze's spell-spamming actually serves to bolster the effectiveness of Mao's passive. Besides, it eventually gets to a point where unless you just let him, he can't kill you, and you're a much bigger asset in teamfights as the emo ent than as Mr. Blue Man Group.
