[COMPLETE] Aug. 2 Maintenance - Ranked Disabled and Possible DCs

Maintenance was complete ~10:15am, ahead of schedule. Ranked is back online and everything should be good to go!

Hey everyone,

Back again to with a heads up we're continuing some back-end router maintenance on August 2 at 8:00AM PDT to perform some software upgrades that could cause some disconnects as well as potential issues viewing support tickets for both the NA and OCE servers. The maintenance is expected to last ~5 hours, so we'll be disabling ranked games from 6:30AM PDT to ~1:00PM PDT (that's 11:30PM AEST to ~6:00AM AEST for all our Aussie friends) to protect your LP while we're leveling up our software.

I know the maintenance time window is less than ideal, but given this maintenance has a multi-region impact, we tried to find the best compromise we could based on usual play patterns. Since it's a bit more of an impactful maintenance than usual, we're going to be keeping a close eye on things during this maintenance and will make sure to update this thread when the maintenance is complete or if we run into any snags along the way.

Even though I don't play on those regions, just a question.. Will you turn off leaverbuster for the duration of the maintenance to prevent any inconveniences?

Not by default. By "Possible disconnects" we mostly mean there's a higher risk for disconnects in general. If we see problems arise during the maintenance though, we'll look at that option.

There was no maintenance during the time of this post, so something else could be going on. If you're still having this issue, the client not launching can happen if changes in security settings are blocking it. If this is still an issue, try out the steps in the permissions guide in any settings changed. Give your PC a reboot just in case something crashed in the background too!

I'm not sure, but I don't think this is related to your experience =o. I assume you believe the maintenance is the reason why you were "going on and off...". The maintenance hasn't started yet.

I think there's a correlation here, since many people have had the same identical problem: massive packet loss specifically in league of legends and stuck on authentication screens. My ping was 36 ms and I tested my internet in other multiple games and clients and had no issues, yet everyone here using comcast had problems with specifically the league client. I lost a game as well due to intense packet loss albeit having fine ping. perhaps a server and isp issue?

We all also happened to use comcast lol

Yeah, maintenance has started now and includes downtime for Solo/Duo and Flex queues.

Just lost 2 ranked games and my promos cause on and off d/c's, couldn't even get back to the game cause I was stuck on authenticating screen... rip

I have comcast and live on the east coast (new jersey) never had internet problems before and I completely lost packets my last game.. couldnt do anything

Identical scenario to myself. Last match, I saw no aa animations, just diminishing health bars. Lost so many packets, though my ping was normally low. So, naturally, I queue up again*[slayer-jinx-wink]*

That's a crappy experience, sorry it happened to you guys. :( There was no maintenance during the time of this post, but by the looks of the comments here, it seems like there could have been an ISP issue.

If you notice sudden issues like this, it's really important to take a break from playing another ranked and pinpoint what's causing it. While it could always be a hiccup, it may not be worth the risk of hopping into another match without double checking. Double check your ISP's support center for any issues, and keep our connection issues guide handy to help rule out possibilities. Hopefully everything is okay now regarding these connection problems overnight.

I actually did call Comcast they said their was no issues with my service I power cycled 2x checked for firmware issues with my router and had a refresh signal sent no luck. Going to try again this afternoon but it appears to be a Comcast/xfinity/east coast issue. I'm near pa in west New Jersey so it could just be our area having issues with the riot servers it took me about 5 mins to authenticate and I did speed tests showing my up and down speeds as normal.

Any chance some sort of maintenance is taking place already? I currently can't login after trying to restart my client during game, the packet loss was INTENSE, more than I'd ever experienced before. I checked, my internet is totally fine, frames were a constant 100+. Before said game my profile view showed I was unranked and had no honor level, and in champ select my mastery page selector bar was small and I couldn't open it. What's going on here?

Maintenance began a moment ago, so this might be unrelated. I wasn't able to find any issues during the time of your post so I'm curious if there might have been an ISP, routing, or more local issue. Was this still an issue, or did it resolve on its own?

I was unable to even login after restarting client for all of last night until I eventually went to bed at like 3am eastern. Quite a few people below experienced similar issues in PA and NJ, all through Comcast. That being said, apart from ranked being down currently everything seems totally fine.

Maintenance just started about 18 minutes ago, so this may be an unrelated occurrence. To be safe, I recommend running through our connection issues guide to help resolve any hiccups with your network reaching champion select. Test it out in a custom game to make sure any instabilities are cleared up.

Move your maintenance/software department to India and have them work during the day (our overnight) and fire all the LA hipsters working on your shit that want to work a 9-5 job at a high cost. For the love of God stop hiring fukin people from LA and move your damn HQ, since clearly this is a bottom line company, fuckin act like it

Because they are wasting money on spoiled ass LA workers that refuse to work overnight and accept high wages + benefits and pretend they are doing it at a convenient time for the majority of the community which is a huge fkin lie. It is barely about playing league, it's the principle. They do this shit almost every week and it is almost always past the estimated time window to have it done. It is clearly time to terminate this fuckin circus of a department to save costs, better serve the community, and to hopefully make a LA hipster homeless.

Wow. This may be the first time I've seen someone complain that an American job is NOT outsourced to India. For someone who is frustrated he/she can't play the game, you sure are quick to want to fire the people who maintain it. Are you mad that they are from LA, or a hipster? Were you bullied by a LA hipster as child? I'm with AngeÌ on this one. I think you should take a break and rethink your life priorities. Your videogame will be back soon enough.

You do not care that the service they offer is poor and unreliable, as they assume you are an idiot by saying they're doing it in a timespace that suits our needs. All of this at such a high cost. You do realise the game can be better if they allocate their resources better right? This isn't about not being able to play League, it's about a poorly run business that takes what it has for granted. Outsourcing these jobs to India would simply reward the better workers, so of course I wouldn't complain about it.

It's time for these people to realise how easy they are to replace, and that they need to start competing for their jobs instead of treating us like tards.

they would still have to do maintenance lol... idk what your logic is, but it's certainly not realistic. if you're so keen on business and costs, then maybe you should start your own gaming company. would occupy your time so you don't flame and be toxic on messenger boards :^)

It MAY be true that the time would be optimal (although they, the company that owns the game, said the time they chose was optimal so it's your word against their at the moment), but trust me, you would want the hardware/software maintenance team in the US once a issue crops up even if it means a few hours of inconvenient instability for a few hours a year. It's going to much more inconvenient when a game breaking issue is found and Riot has to wait for the Indians to wake up, be told what to fix, and work back and forth with the hardware team in Chicago (unless you think the NA sever should be moved to India too).

Working Americans generally work longer than Europeans do. I know Rioters will often work late into the day to get their work done. Not sure where this "lazy" is coming from. Your own work ethic? Life is not all about your work and you should balance it with personal things (such as spending time with family) if you can afford to.

I literally logged in just to comment on what you are arguing about! You are saying that they should move there servers over to India just so maintenance can be done at night? Look after you start to grow up and get a real job and experience what it's like to work late then keep your mouth shut because believe me it's not fun coming home around 2am and still needing to get a shower and eat only to get up around 10am the next day, they picked the most beneficial time for both players and workers as a lot of the people would currently be at work during the maintenance most of the people that are complaining right now are probably students waisting the day away playing video games so stop complaining and go hang out with friends for 5 hours or get a job

I think the issue likely resides with Comcast blocking packets from Riot servers, as everything else that I was doing online seemed to be working fine, resulting in me thinking that it was a server-end issue.

Constantly Got 30 through 1 hour dodge timers because of this problem and lost series 4 times hopefully this can help with my like 90+ lp i've lost

Maintenance wasn't occurring during the time of this post, and it sounds like your issue might be unrelated to the updates being made. Your connection could be pretty unstable if you're dodging this much, struggling to keep up in champion select. I highly recommend going over each step of the connection issues guide to help troubleshoot and tackle whatever is causing this.

They maintenance is affecting all regions. Riot already acknowledged the unfortunate timing of this down time for NA and EU, but these aren't the only regions being affected and they had to find a time that best fit all.

My whole game doesn't start! I see the league of legends logo for like 2 seconds but nothing happens... I tried restart my pc but also didn't work. Please RIOT reply <3

A setting on your OS or even antivirus might have changed, and could be blocking League from launching. Just in case, though, restart your PC in case something crashed. If the issue persists, the steps in the permissions guide should help restore things!

Keep in mind though that even if you get the client up to the login screen, you may have issues logging in during this maintenance window.
