A silver scrub's guide to Team Comps!

So in order to get everything in, I need to keep this brief. By no means is this a complete list, simply what I've observed over my time playing league. I will make up terms to describe each role and function in each team type. I would love constructive critism. As long as it is actually constructive.

Dive comp: probably the best known, and most intuitive to execute. It works the best in lower elos because they can't handle everything and never know when to spread out/disengage.

---The divers: usually 2 or 3 team members fall in this category. They are the people who pick out when the enemy team is clustered, as well as whe their own team has the advantage on an engage. This is by far the main way to screw up a dive comp. If your divers are stupid.

--- the nukers: usually 2 members are the main damage dealers. In dive comps the nukers usually are depeended on to lay out a ton of aoe damage in order to effectively follow up dives. The support can either be a diver or a cc'er for best results.

A good example comp would be: aatrox, lissandra, amumu, leona, and twitch.

Two hard counters to a good dive comp are janna and gragas

The next comp is a poke comp: simple to understand, hard to implement properly.

The pokers: usually 3 teammates are pokers. They are required to chip away at enemy health with their strong poke until the enemy is either caught out and jumped on, or forced to back. The goalies: this is the most crucial part of a poke comp. Someone who can lock down enemies who try to get to your pokers. They are usually really good at diving, but use their powers for anti-diving purposes most of the game instead of protecting a net, they block damage and engages from reaching their teammates.

A good example team would be: jayce, corki, janna, nautilus, nidalee.

This comp is hard countered by very strong engages like malphite and j4.

The next is the splitpush comp:

The splitpushers: there are usually two. They do their best to give the team a tower advantage as early on as possible. They excel at farming and capping objectives. They only team fight if necessary. The homefront: these remaining team-members are generally good at turtling and have decent lockdown threat. Or are so aggressive and good at clearing waves no one wants to mess with them.

A good example team is: tryn, yi, orianna, ali, and trist.

They are hard countered by strong duelists and mobility assassins. Like zed and ahri

The peel and pounce team: basically as it sounds. Isolate and melt. The peelers: usually 3 members are peelers. Their main goal is to seperate the enemy team into more managable groups of 1 and 2 enemies that can be destroyed fast.

The pouncers: the remaining two teammates are designated to melt any peeled targets as fast as possible to be successful. Since windows of opportunity are small, they can't let up for even a moment. The faster they kill, the better the system works.

A good peel and pounce team would be: jax, gragas, diana, blitz, and vayne.

They are hard countered by strong counter engages and aoe nukers like lissandra, mf and amumu.

I'd love feedback and please add anything I might have missed. I'd like more info on these teams, and anything you may feel would work better. I am S5, so I'm no expert. Please enlighten me wit any additional team comps I may have missed.

what about protect the hyper carry comb, vayne/kog'maw adc with leona/alistar support amumu/lee sin jungle anivia/gragas mid riven top

ban malphite and olaf and fiora

the enemy team will be faced with a random wall, 2 knock backs, 2 roots, 2 knock ups 3 stuns and alot of slows

having the jungler camp bot and keep the adc farmed up, no need for kills just scale hard late game and have your top and mid play extra careful and late game, your vayne will be able to 5 hit carries and 10 hit tanks

I'm SV as well and I agree with these type on team comps as I have experienced these as such and I believe these were used during the LCS by teams and of course although we now have the knowledge to discuss team comps especially with the new que system in which you can automatically set up your comps that you wish to have in your lobby than just having blind picks as most of the time the team comp is balanced but its usually how the players play with their champions which really shows if they are fully utilizing the skills that the champions could use. Nice work.

I see 98% dive comps in my ranked matches, with about 80% of them featuring "dive as soon as the enemy is visible" type players who have to be constantly micromanaged to avoid throws. It's very frustrating as these people will continually die and then yell at the team for not backing them up, even though either we weren't anywhere nearby or it was a horrendously bad time to go in. Generally these people end up throwing the game unless the other 3-4 people are very good and happened to select just the right characters to compensate. For example if I am MF I can't just march into the enemy to perform cleanup, so even if the diver gets one low we often can't finish him, however if I am Leona, I can throw my ult out into the back line to either get the kill or give my team the time to get there to clean up.

hmmm. there are also hybrids. teams centered around aoe team fighting- getting off a wombo combo like the curse of the sad bullet time. or empire for example (remember empire guys?) these team comps sometimes fail in having a hard initiate.

there are also split push strategies that center around having as many globals as possible. such as TSM's lets get TF/nocturne and shen together and spread the enemy as thin as possible and then counter initiate.

there's also the protect the late game hyper carry team comp. which involves building a supporting team surrounding your vayne/twitch/kogmaw and who's whole focus is to feed the adc and make it to late game.

you could probably fit most of these into your own if you wanted.

im S2 and no expert either.
