Should there be a new division lower then bronze?

I feel with the new expatiation of the Challenger tier to alleviate the pressure in the diamond one tier there should be new division lower then bronze to even out the lower tiers. I feel as if the lower tiers (bronze and low silver) have too much of a skill gap. With the millions of people who play the game maybe a new division is needed. The new division does not even have to be lower then bronze it can be put in the middle and the current bronze can be lower then it already is. Any thoughts

Below-Bronze is a take I like, since Bronze is such a huge bucket. Even the difference between B2 and B5 has notable difference in game mechanics competencies.

It's something we've been discussing, but I'd have to follow-up with the team that's working on Ranked stuff (you guys see the new Ranked Rewards reveal?) to see what their thoughts are.

I think Riot should actually go back to the system that had "Unranked for those who had a really low MMR/Elo. The issue with developing another ranked tier below Bronze is that there is already a toxic mentality and a negative connotation to being in Bronze. How many times have you heard "God you're so Bronze", "Bronze scrub", etc? If you add another tier below Bronze it could potentially make the issue much much worse and lead to more toxicity.

jk ^^
How about a division called bootcamp? Where the mmr isn't pressured as much as in the 'real' divisions. That way, new players are automatically set into bootcamp and must play ~10 games there at least before they can get out. And if they fail and fail and fail and try again, then at least their mmr won't be broken.

The big problem is that this promotes even MORE toxicity.

generally toxic players call people bronze when they make a mistake and want to pick at them. Creating a lower tier would simply give ragers another excuse to make poor comments.

I think it's a solid idea, but like someone else brought up, you'd need to give some feedback as to why they're being placed into sub-Bronze tier. Copper tier? Wood is too rough hahah.

Without knowing why you're being placed in that tier, I fear players wouldn't necessarily get better. Not saying they're all bad, but overall, I think more feedback should be given from the system in regards to why you're losing or winning. Maybe more comprehensive stats shown on the first screen after a win/loss, pointing out how you matched up against your lane opponent in CS, damage to that person, times you almost got caught by the jungler, something like that. Giving players more information on their performance is key to breeding better summoners.

The thing about providing knowledge though, is only going to help the players that want to get better, or admit that they make mistakes. The thing about a lot of low ELO players isn't that they aren't provided with the resources to learn, it's moreso that they are unwilling to learn. They believe they are perfect and aren't likely to admit their mistakes or attempt to improve their play, but rather, blame it on other players.

Secondly, while players over exaggerate the number of trolls or mistake poor play for trolling, I do believe hat trolling in ranked is a problem. It encourages players to try less, even in games with non-trolls. I think punishment in ranked games should be harder than in non-ranked games.

I definitely think that something needs to happen with the way ranked is for Bronze. I agree that there is a huge skill gap between the tiers in bronze, but the last thing League needs is more toxicity. Creating one lower than Bronze would promote more people to blame you for being "worse than bronze" which could be even more of an insult. It's hard though, with how most of the community bases your skill on ranked roles when perhaps you didn't quite have a great day that day, or got put in roles you weren't good at, or even get stuck with trolls. I mean, if there was some way to make Bronze not such a bad place to be, I think more people would play ranked. I know many people who refuse to play ranked because it's honestly a scary thing to be in. Especially being placed in Bronze, people get poked at, and it's truly not fun. I wonder if there could be a way to get a type of Team Builder feature in ranked, so perhaps players could get the roles that they want instead of complaining about it. Just a thought.

Yes. Wood < Copper < Bronze < Silver < Gold < Plat < Diamond < Challenger

Beats295/2/2014, 1:27:32 AM1 votes

Yes it should. As a bronze player myself, many high-elo player have no idea of the difference of skill and game knowledge between bronze 5 and bronze 3 for example.

Of course there're exceptions, but most are way far worse. I found way harder to climb out of bronze than out of bronze 3 for example.

Opening a new tier below bronze is like poking a hole in the bottom of the Bronze bucket and letting its contents spill down into a Wooden bucket. It wouldn't solve anything at all, it would simply make it one step further that you have to go to get to diamond or challenger, and all the problems we currently see with Bronze would be pushed down to Wood.

Loomybinn4/29/2014, 7:03:35 PM1 votes

I personally think that their should be an Unranked, or something like that below Bronze. The big reason that I feel that way is because in sports, which is where the medals system comes from, Bronze means something. If you got bronze in the Olympics, people aren't going to be like, "You are such a bronze athlete!" Bronze is an accomplishment, though you are still not the best. Thus, Bronze in League, although it would be the least of all accomplishments, should be an accomplishment. You shouldn't just get bronze for trying, IMHO.

Where is this new Ranked Rewards thread that Morello spoke of? I've been searching everywhere for it, but I can't find a thing.
