What I learned as a Silver IV being spectated by high levels
I had some high level players spectate my ranked games and give me feedback. below is all of the advice given to me edited only for grammar/typos.
I played two sivir games and one leona game, however the general section has a lot of valuable information to improve as a summoner on a base level as a player.
After seeing all of these critiques I was a bit disheartened, but then I combed through the entirety of all the chat, and a lot of the logs were positive saying how well I was doing, despite lacking in a few areas.
Keep in mind I left out all of the "gj there with xx!" comments and other communications and restricted it to only useful criticism. I felt leaving the positives out was best, because most were situational and had lack of description. I also left out direct event criticism ie "why did you just do that?"
there are 5 sections: general adc support sivir leona
Read what you want, it is a ton of stuff, and I can't TL;DR it without severely compromising the message.
I feel like I represent a very average player for my ranking, and hope players my rank will benefit from this.
GENERAL ADVICE---------------------------------
---keep track of your items so that you don't end up wasting gold and losing potential gold as well
--- One thing I noticed was a couple dives in the mid game when you guys were a bit behind lucian used his ult to clear waves an you went in. lucian's ult isn't that good in an engagement except to try and clean people up or push people off a turret
--- in general if one of you is screwed in an engage, just split up so they have to make a choice.
---in general, if your opponents, especially the jungle show in another lane, you want to put pressure in your lane.( granted, that is not easy to do on support leona, if you can, ping so your ADC will push it, tower control lets you secure more of their jungle and apply more pressure)
---Uses of flash and barrier are never correct
---You often flash and barrier for no observed reason (same goes for spell shield)
---You see a threat and barrier or flash with no incoming danger
--You then die in times where barrier would have been useful if it was not on CD
---You CS poorly: For every 6 minions that came into lane you averaged about 2-3 minion kills at 20minutes in (40% cs rate)
---You need better map awareness. You should look at the mini map every chance you can.
---During team fights you seem to tunnel vision. You get hit by a slow moving thresh hook most likely because you did not have your eyes on thresh.
---You take too much harassment and give little back.
---You cast spells in lane too often and without reason
---You do not back at proper times
---Observed you waiting by your tower for the minion wave to get to you when you were at 5% mana and 40% hp. Recall more.
--- taric vs all ad = instadodge (atleast until nerfs)
--- After you got bot turret your team should have done dragon. should have pinged it
--- farm your jungle and stick with your team
--- You walked past your red buff that needed to be reset. clear the small guys to reset it and keep the timer on it
--- use your trinket more it should never be off CD for more than however long it takes to walk to a bush/area to ward
ADC ADVICE--------------------------
--- lucian is really powerful right now honestly I think sivir is the best response to a lucian pick
--- if you buy statikk shiv, kite during fights (EG: vs that Vi) and make sure to kite minions (shove lane faster)
--- don’t hug your low HP tower while at low HP. farm wraiths/wolves. you were in no condition to defend that turret if Lucian decided to siege it
---during that team fight mid – don’t dive past a Vi to go 1v1 lucian. stick behind your team, you're the backline not a bruiser
--- again. you're over-extended bot lane without any vision on enemy blue or river.
---farm/heal off double golems. Don’t just stay in lane by yourself at 300HP vs a full HP lucian if you stand outside the double golems AA range you can heal to full by letting them heal up with a bit of life steal
--- focus more on farm than poking. You are already substantially behind on cs.
---You get too close in team fights and pay for it. marksmen are meant to be at a range.
--- they had creep advantage and a gold advantage. though slight, lucian also had a level advantage, so just try to be mindful of that. check cs and kda before assessing enemy strength
--- something I wasn't aware of when I was in silver was that a level is worth between 400 to 700 gold in stats alone, while lucian’s actual cs and kill advantage only amounted to about 300 g at the time, with the level advantage hes at nearly 1kg advantage
SUPPORT ADVICE-------------------
--- there were also times when you engaged unnecessarily like some times when you guys were in unfavorable positions
--- I noticed the same thing happening over and over again, which got you guys caught out in numerous positions and ended up getting double killed or forced out of lane again, if you give lucian/taric any advantage, they can snowball hard because they have all-n potential
--- dont engage when your ADC is behind
--- if your ADC isn't in lane. last hit the creeps. gold is gold.
--- lucian completely out damages caitlyn atm w/ Taric ult-steroid + completed TF vs B.F sword even with your passive proc she'll die to him easily so just play passive, save your spells to peel for her, and let her farm up
---early on, you seemed pretty well focused on clearing your relic shield stacks, which is good, make sure you kill the most gold valued minions when you have orbs and make sure your team mates know to let you about mid game that became much less of a focus
---the biggest problem with your support is communication and decision making just focus more about cooperating with your AD, knowing your limits, and positioning yourself correctly and you will be much better
---targons: you got targons on leona, which is a good choice. You should get targons on most melee supports however, you never really used it I noticed that at the 10 minute mark, you didn't use your targons for at least 4 minutes which is a lot of gold you could have given to yourself and your AD which could have potentially helped out in lane
--- what you do in lane when you are not in a favorable matchup is just farm and the reason is because you let your AD just scale into mid/late game and get more effective there. If Lucian doesn't get ahead in lane, he is not as strong in teamfights and his dmg is not as great
--- every time you go in for a botched all – in you force your AD to lose CS, and potentially die or get chunked so he has to go base which is obviously terrible because you lose gold and EXP
---Once you give up pressure and advantage to enemy lane, you need to play passive. This is one of the most important things to do as a support. Especially on hyper aggressive supports like Leona. That’s the only way you will win.
--- as support, you should always rune either lots of armor, gold/10, and movement speed quints and MR but usually you want 20 armor from runes and go defensive masteries, which you did
---Lucian Taric is probably one of the best if not the best duo lane atm lucian is top tier AD because of his passive, which allows him to outtrade any ADC and taric is good because he is naturally tanky and the new changes to his passive allow him to deal a ton of burst dmg if comboed correctly
--- so you are dealing with a heavy kill bot lane, who only need to get 1 kill in order to snowball now you had Cait leona, which don't synergize as well and it was very obvious from the beginning first off, that cait was pretty bad, but you can't just blame it all on her your positioning in lane is actually really bad you put yourself miles ahead of the ADC and engage whenever you see an opening to get a skill shot off which you should never do.
Because
-
You have no follow up from your AD
-
You are just gonna get outtraded by taric/Lucian if it was a different AD/support matchup, maybe but you never want to just go in without any warnings to your AD if you're gonna do that, at least ping the target before going in so your AD knows what you're doing. Otherwise, they're just gonna CS and tbh I would do the same thing
--- Also when cait was pushing their bot turret you should have gone with her instead of clearing the ward in the back of drag pit because it gave them no vision in the river, so you could clear it later without losing anything, and might have been able to bring down the turret
SIVIR ADVICE------------------------
--- sivir is very very powerful in a team fight because of her ability to force a fight with her ult or disengage one
--- your W is an AA reset. Aa->W->AA, dont open with it (sivir)
--- ahri was shut down but a charm from her could still have killed you the problem was that banshees veil was being popped by lucian more than anything
--- so far the biggest things for you is: don't overextend, farm your jungle more, and quit diving past the enemy frontline
--- You’re being out farmed by Lucian atm. You're sivir, no ADC should be out farming you ever unless you fed during laning phase.
--- dont poke with level 1 Q. remember, wait until its level 2. go Q->E->Q or Q->W->Q (depending how much you need spell shield) ; it is a waste of mana at level 1
---You Spell shield when no spell is coming, don’t waste it. It has a long CD.
---Boomerang blade one minion
---Complete boomerang blade whiffs
---Using W when unneeded
---These are the reasons your mana is always low
LEONA ADVICE----------------------
---you have to wait for your jungler to engage unless they are heavily chunked. You had a vi jungle, so anytime she ganks after 6, you guys pretty much guarantee a kill because once she ults, you can back up with CC constantly
---try not to shove lane with your W when you back off after an engage(Leona)
--- dont engage as leona pre-3 unless your jungler is ganking from tri take too much damage without W especially since Taric has a heal
--- no need to have flashed for that engage should have waited until level 6 so you had ult (Leona)
--- Oh, and lastly, I think you should rush the sight stone after your first gold item on leona, as an all in support, you can sell your ward trinket then and buy the scanner to clear wards for ganks
---there were a couple times you went in for a dive when your adc was out of position. I know that is hard to communicate though, and sometimes your adc just wimps out on you lol
