East Coast Lag is reaching unplayable levels

I am located in Pittsburgh. When I first started playing league in late season 2, I would get lag in the 60-90 ping range. I never saw ping higher than 100 for the first few months of play.

It has steadily increased with each subsequent patch, as has the range of variance, despite my moving to a location with SUPERIOR internet (from Comcast DSL to Verizon FIOS). My average ping is now around 90-120, but frequently spikes up into the 200-500+ range. This steady state lag is approaching the realm where I cannot possibly be competitive, and the spikes are well beyond that range, with the game essentially becoming stop motion animated or freezing when it reaches that high.

At the current time I am having to play IN ANTICIPATION OF A SPIKE, meaning super conservative, and I do not dare to dive or try to win a fight by outplaying my opponent rather than poking them down. Frequently in teamfights my use of CC is late or suboptimal due to this, if it doesn't fail to go off at all. I am frequently unable to either go in or retreat as the game spikes and I lose control for several seconds, either losing kills I should have gotten or giving up ones I should not have.

We need a solution for the long time, well established and frequently reported east coast lag issue. If this trend continues then by the end of the season I will have to cease playing League as I will be unable to run the game in an acceptable state. It is not fair to me as a player to have my hard work and skill abrogated by the game failing to function and it is not fair to my teammates who have to carry harder or lose because I am unable to play the game properly.

This issue is NOT on my side, as I can play many other games without this issue that are just as net intensive and located similarly to you, including Infinite Crisis, SMITE, DOTA2, Heroes of the Storm, Dawngate and Orcs Must Die Unchained. You will note that several of these games are still in alpha or beta and have not undergone full or in some cases any optimization and they STILL run better than League. As one of the largest e-sports games in the world, I expect better performance from League than any of these listed games other than Dota 2. While I am excited for the upcoming Summoners Rift VU, I may not be able to play by the time it is released.

You have more than enough money and personnel to fix this problem, and you have had more than enough time to do so. I have been seeing reports on this issue all over the forums, reddit, and the new community for years. It is no longer excusable as you being a young or a small company. Get your shit in order.

He has a point. I really want to play more often without having 109 Ping per game and that may be steady for now it would be way better if you put in new servers for the east.

Has Riot addressed the issue of East Coast lag at all? If so, someone direct me to it.

Optimization has nothing to do with lag. Lag is the delay caused by your internet connection.

So let's imagine where the problem could be coming from. Aside from you and Riot servers, there's also your ISP, Verizon. Superior internet connection? Sure, but do you know the route that Verizon takes you to Riot servers through? The fact that your ping was lower in S2 makes me believe that your ISP is probably the issue here.

Could Riot make NA East Coast servers? Sure, but now West Coast players will end up playing on higher ping. East Coast servers solve nothing.

Don't worry we will get east coast servers SOON(tm)

Riot has been saying so for the last 5 years and has never made progress in that direction so probably never

As far as we can tell, Riot is still trying to work things out on the servers.

I believe this was the last known post about East Coast servers and an update on the progress on optimizing connections.

I'm seeing the same issues. Hoping the new SR map will fix a lot of the internet problems when it goes live.

Before the last patch, was playing ~80 ping, now I get ~100-110 ping (only on LoL) and giant lag whenever anyone else in my house tries to use the internet. 500ping for 10s if someone decides to rewind Netflix in another room, GG. Never happened until the last few patches, and doesn't happen with other games.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR POST

LOL doesnt not care about any of its other players right now, if your not CHALLENGER RANKING or higher they do not bother / or if your not in one of thier featured tournament teams from ASIA or EU your not worth their time

They are using all thier available tools to help power these tournaments and fuel the people who pay the most $$$$$

Further more as the decline of league slowly gets worse, i suggest taking to those other games you mention
