Galio: One Change that Could Make The Sentinel's Sorrow a Viable Pick

Galio sits currently as the either the least used champion or the second least used champion on a day to day basis. He averages a 1% pick rate, and he has basically returned to statue form, awaiting purpose. His kit is theoretically balanced and is close to being amazing, but he only truly gets used by Galio fanatics. I can't help but feel like a small change would get him some more presence on the Rift and the community would be more receptive to Galio and his kit.

One of the things that successful engage/teamfight champions have is mobility. Pantheon Braum Alistar Aatrox Amumu Hecarim Maokai Nautilus Sejuani Talon Kassadin Vi to name just a few.

Galio's E is currently a skill-shot that creates a movement speed boost, but one change to this ability could get him up from the bottom of the popularity list. By modifying it to a short dash that creates a slipstream with the same movement speed buff, Galio now has a method to escape or engage without blowing flash.

Rather than shooting wind in front of him, the new ability tooltip would be:

Righteous Gust - Galio claps his wings, forcing himself forward in a gust of concussive wind that damages enemies and leaves behind a slipstream that increases ally movement speed. Range - 1180 >> 650 units Cooldown- 12 seconds >> 22/21/20/19/18 seconds reduced by .75 seconds for each auto-attack

Pros -Mobility is considered essential on 'in-meta' champions -Combo-ing this with Galio's ult results in an impressive team-fight. -This doesn't attempt to buff Galio's ult, which has been nerfed almost more than Irelia. -The ability now has the potential to give the player "style points." -The auto attack focus gives Galio incentive to melee, and offers harassment opportunities for enemies.

Cons -Combo-ing this with Galio's ult results in an impressive team-fight; It might be too powerful to bear. -Some might not want Galio in such a role; wanting him to retain his old role -Galio used to be considered OP; some might not want Galio to come back.

Any thoughts? Criticism? Let me hear it! Have you looked at this but have nothing to say? Let me know you were here!

Galio's ult is a lot more devastating than Amumu This would be a little too strong, i guess.

I'd say he should be moved more toward the support role, maybe with his W healing the allied champion (or both, but for less ?) and some tweak to his E, like a better scaling that doesn't punish him for maxing it last and a more responsive spell overall (casting speed i'm looking at you)

I'm putting random numbers just to give you the idea.

MOVEMENT SPEED: 20 / 28 / 36 / 44 / 52% >> 30/34/38/42/48 MAGIC DAMAGE: 60 / 105/ 150 / 195 / 240 (+ 50% AP) >> 70/110/150/190/230 (+50 AP)

Something like Orianna's W, everyone who walks in the area gets a movement speed for x seconds, could be considered aswell.

The passive is also fine, since supports often build mres items (locket, abyssal, chalice).

It'd need a long cooldown, but a 1-second refresh on it per autoattack or something would be cool to accompany it.

Might be nice, but then isn't his kit almost exactly like Gragas? His ult just pulls people in instead if pushing them away.

I like your idea for changing his skill, and I voted as "Maybe after some adjustments", I very much like the idea of the gust being behind him instead of in front, but I do not see the need for this kind of change to galio mainly because I feel that galio already is a viable pick, who fills a niche roll very well, that being of a magic resist tank who is able to still dish out decent damage and offer, above average cc. Galio is definitely not a popular pick right now, and I would definitely say he is not super strong or a "go to" pick for most games, but I dont see him as being under powered and in need of any buffing, there are team comps that I would choose to play galio against and that I know I would have a great chance of winning. In the game right now, sometimes, galio is a good choice, what more can you ask of a champion?

Galio is one of my favorite as it is. I voted for it to be adjusted. I don't like how similar it is to gragas. I personally like her e now. I think it could have more utility (besides ally movement speed). Possibly increase attack speed for allies and low it for enemies? It would make support galio a lot more popular. :)

But if you want to stick with the ramming feature, then I suggest making it a little more... safe. If that was his ability, then he would have to play pretty different than his kit already allows. His abilities now allow in to safely CC and poke the enemy champions and then finish them with a good ult. With this new kit Galio would have to be safe and only q and wait for the right time. He would have a harder time getting the enemy low enough to get a good ult too. This E could very easily put him out of position. Without many of ways to do damage (being so vulnerable when he does auto attacks, I'm not really counting that as a damage method) other than q, he needs to safe poke that he (somewhat) already has.

On the other side, there does need to be an easier way to get him into good ulting position.

And collected ugh for galio's ult being nerfed more than irelia. >.< Like is Galio really that game changing (esp in LCS)? #YesAllGalio

Thats not his only problem. In fact, his skills are too costly and they have a long cooldown. I'd suggest to begin with these issues, concerning his laning.

Skillshot gap closer and giant aoe cc? Amumu

though i like this personally i think if they took the cast time off of the E and made only knock-ups,stuns and silences affect the R it would also make him much more viable also instead of move to cancel early hitting r again.

Most of the posts say something along the lines of "long cooldown" and "with a way to lower the cooldown while its on cooldown"

I think in this instance, he would need a small movement buff upon casting it for a short period as well. When trying to escape, the gust is his only tool. if he only has one cast to get out or die, it better be a pretty good cast :P

FantasySniper7/24/2014, 12:24:10 AM2 votes

It would need a long cooldown with a way to also lower that cooldown, preferably. You will definitely have to reduce the range of the skill, though.

I see it being good for trades and escapes, also while helping him become more of an initiator support tank.

Counting the "Maybe" votes as half of the value of a "Yes" vote, We've averaged about a 77% vote every time I've done the math Not bad at all.

Edit 8:00PM CST 80% 1:00AM CST 75%

I think this post is dead, so any who wants to know: 74.% of people vote yes 91% of people agree in some manner.

I think another big BIG problem galio has is no hard CC except on his ult. This is REALLY bad for anyone especially a support

Pryotra7/25/2014, 6:23:01 AM1 votes

Honestly? He is fine. Believe it or not, he fits well either Mid or Top, having sustain and poke. It's just that right now, sustain/poke comps aren't really in.

If galio needs ANYTHING, it's for the taunt to reapply, like Nunu's slow, but the reapplication should be susceptible to tenacity.

For example, currently what happens is:

Galio is picked, everyone buys mercs, Galio ults, everyone leaves AoE before detonation. Every single time.

What should happen is:

Galio is picked, Tanks/bruisers build mercs, Galio ults, bruisers/tanks get brief moments between reapplications to either CC Galio or escape the AoE, Ult pops when interrupted or pops on completion.

This gives counter play without making the counter play crippling to Galio and brainless to use. That said, even without this, I don't really think galio is in a bad spot. Just mana gated. Considering that your first buy SHOULD be a chalice ANYWAYS, that really shouldn't be an issue.
