how to learn a new role?

I am decent at every role... a few months ago adc was my worst role. I proceeded to play games and found that lucian fit my playstyle best.... even though I was bad I did get better over time and now it is my best role next to support and I dominate with it...

but now I am learning top, which I have no champions for... nidalee and taric are the only champions I have found that fit my top playstyle.

ap nidalee I prefer but I have tried bruiser nidalee... it doesn't work for me honestly.... and ap nidalee isn't as fun in top lane where you just passively throw spears that rarely hit cuz it's 1v1.... so bruiser taric has become my go to champion

while I have seen how strong it is, and I know it can do well (extreme tankiness, amazing heal every 3 seconds if you are in combat with a champion, and good daamge from passive) my bad play is making it harder for me this time around... since I am using such an odd top champion, I find most people are less willing to let me top once I lock in taric, and if they look at my recent playrecord they immediately tell me not to play him or they leave. considering my lack of experience in top, I do things all the time like let garen's passive go all day long, or trying to fight renekton early game.... so I really am just wondering.... how do you convince people to let you do a champion you play a role best as, if you are bad at the role in general.

tl;dr: how can you learn to be better at a role when your best champ in the role is unusual and people don't want you to play it

Taric really isn't a great top laner, and you would probably have more success with someone else because frankly you are not going to be able to convince people to let you go top. Instead I would suggest Kayle, she has a strong heal/speed steroid, an ulti that can make anyone on your team immune to damage for 2 seconds, a super strong slow/nuke AND is ranged. She has a really strong kit that pretty much fits into any team comp.

  1. Practice.
  2. Learn the match ups.
  3. Practice some more.

Stick to normals and take top, doesn't matter if the team doesn't "approve" of the champion you pick as generally speaking many champions can play many roles they weren't ideally suited for, haters gonna hate :)

If you like Taric top, and he fits your style, OK. But I would say you should try someone else like him if you want to be more successful.

Nasus has: -Powerful sustain through passive, akin to Taric. -Armor Shred AOE -Aura ultimate. -Targeted powerful CC

But, he also has rewards for defensive play, split pushing power, and infinite scaling on his Q making him a far more potent laner.

Looking for a ranged AP top to replace Nidalee, try Kennen.

-Ranged skillshot poke -High mobility -Harass power

But far more impactful all ins and early game safety.
