@Riot, Thoughts on Lulu and support role in general
Hello Rioters, first let me say I love this game and I've spent more money than I care to know and despite my name I try to be friendly towards others every game even if they aren't always nice, with that it's almost obvious that I main support.
I used to play a lot of Lulu support but currently it sees more play top and mid and overall seems less effective as a support. I feel like every patch that nerfs Lulu's solo lane also hurts her ability to be played as a support which leads Lulu to either being played in a solo lane or not being played at all. When I look at Thresh though he gets nerfed again and again but always sees play as a support. Even if lantern only shields one person he'll still see play and I'm fine with that, I just wish other supports would also be similar in that aspect.
In my opinion it seems to be a utility scaling issue, as a support player I almost never build AP unless I'm playing Morgana or Zyra which coincidentally have no utility scaling. As long as support items exist it's not likely nor very viable to build AP on a support with a few exceptions. Also if Lulu is meant to be played as a support why not shift her power from her glitterlance (Q) to her Help, Pix! (E) it would make more sense as a support to max E over Q.
For example:
Glitterlance: Magic Damage: 80 / 110 / 140 / 170 / 200 (+ 50% AP) Slow Duration: 2 at all levels
Help, Pix!: Magic Damage: 80 / 125 / 170 / 215 / 260 (+ 40% AP) Shield Strength: 80 / 120 / 160 / 200 / 240 (+ 60% AP)
Note: I'm not a balance expert this is just an example of shifting her power from Q over to E while still giving support Lulu the utility of a max Q slow.
Also, why does Thresh's (Dark Passage) last 6 seconds long? Wouldn't it be better balanced at 4-5 seconds, allowing for possible counter play by crowd controlling, or even just changing how fast they travel back would add counter play by making it somewhat easier to cancel mid travel. Why is it that most buffs and nerfs are on base stats and scaling with very few tweaks to projectile speeds and duration of spells... cough.. Zigg's minefield ..cough
