Hurtful comments — They hurt far more than you think

I was just playing a game with a Jax. I won't name a summoner name. I actually can't since I exited the client. My computer turned off automatically because it scheduled an update without telling me (I'm on Windows 8. For some reason it does stupid random stuff). I did everything to get back into the game but it was already too late. My lane had already fallen (both turrets) and Nidalee had roamed and gotten fed. I was doing the best I could to catch up but we lost. Just before the game ended Jax said something very very hurtful. He told me to kill myself. Unfortunately I didn't report him so you can't find the chat log but that doesn't change the message. I used to be suicidal and I still often think about killing myself so this message sunk deep and latched its claws into my brain. I'm not scared to admit that I cried a bit before I tried to play my next game (that was a mistake. I didn't play smart at all because that comment was still on my mind). Maybe he meant it and maybe he didn't but the fact is you don't know anyone's past and anything you say can send someone over the edge.

I want to publicly apologize to anyone I raged at. I didn't know what I was doing to you at the time but I know now and if I hurt anyone I'm sincerely sorry. If you see my name and remember something I said that hurt you then don't hesitate to let me know so I can (if possible) reverse the damage I've done.

Guys this summoners code is in place for a purpose and it's to make the game enjoyable for everyone. Even if you lose a game no one should make you feel like a loser. Please, if you're reading this follow it. I'm begging you. I'm done playing League of Legends for a while. It may just be a week long break or it might be forever (probably not, I've poured a lot of money into this game) but I'll keep up with this forum post and if you have problems I'm listening.

+1 for awareness

More than likely he did not mean it. Being truly malicious is thankfully quite rare in the world, but ignorance, insensitivity, and lack of thought is coincidentally tragically common in my experience.

I am truly sorry this happened to you, and I hope that future games will be much much better. With the utmost sincerity, gl hf.

I'd like to thank you for making this post Chaotic, because everyone who reads it will be less likely to make comments like that in the future, and because making this post is something i wouldn't have been able to do myself.

Everyone battles with their inner demons, including myself, but not everyone wins that fight. Five years ago someone i love took her own life. It's not something i ever want to talk about because all i can think about is what i could have done back then, but i can never go back and this can never be made right..

so when i see people type things like "you should kill yourself" because of what happened in an online game it infuriates me. How dare they say something so inhuman, and for what, a game? To anyone who says things they "don't mean", please... consider the effects of dumping that kind of hatefulness out into the world. Say what you mean and mean what you say, or better still, just say nothing at all...

I hope that more people have the courage that you have, to be able to compose yourself and appeal to the better nature of those who have hurt you, because that way, little by little, people will change.

Remove chat everytime you play this game.

In all seriousness, I'm glad you brought this up. Name calling, insults, and slurs are such childish things to say, but words drive emotions. Words do not physically hurt, but they can serious psychological scars. In your case, they reminded of you of your pain, and I am sorry you had to go through that. Keep in mind my fellow Summoners, that League of Legends is a game of cooperation, not obstruction. Build up other people's self-worth and yours will build itself up. Thank you for sharing, Chaotic134.

I have to admit, it does suck when your computer decides to randomly update itself.... (Windows 8.1)

I've never had too much trouble though, I try to play with my friends most of the time so I don't get too much $#!%.

This is exactly the reason people shouldn't say things like that. Yes, most of the time it's only in jest, (even if it's rude) however there are some people that ARE suicidal, that WOULD kill themselves, I'm sad to say I've known some people that actually did off themselves because of rude comments from stupid people, and that's why I'm glad you made this post. Just keep living, as TwistedFate has taught me, when you're a good person, "Lady luck is smilin'"

So, I had an incident where a player told me to kill myself but I'm also been pretty chipper person, so it didn't bother me. In my game, though, we were winning horribly, blowing out the other team. This guy got mad for something dumb.....i forget what it was, was like 1000 games ago. All I'm trying to say is, when someone gets mad they say dumb shit, purposefully trying to hurt you. Just ignore them. Eventually you'll get to the point where you aren't soloing so much and just playing with friends.
