Figuring out the plot to Dark Souls is harder than getting 100% in Crash
The two bridge levels in crash 1 are pure aids
Crash wasn't too difficult. I personally found Dark Souls harder, honestly.

Dark Souls is not mechanically intensive unless you get into serious pvp (despite the extraordinary depth in its combat system and what you can do with it, you only need 3 moves to beat the game: light attack, block and roll), it's a game with its cored in training patience and tactics.
Crash Bandicoot is a mechanically intensive platformer, it's a game about utilising reflex and mechanical prowess.
Both game requires different kind but good amount of practice if you want to perform well. They are different but both are hard games.
The answer is always Megaman 2.
I say Dark Souls simply because it's more punishing of mistakes.
Being real the only reason old school crash had any difficulty was the camera angle and tiny shadow made it hard to tell where you were standing compared to every other 3d platformer that existed

If you are going for the 100% route Crash series is bordeline impossible... God, I still remember the hours wasted on collenting all the gems, crystals, etcc... in CB3

For casual play DS Series it's harder. Completed all of them and the hardest part for me was the Goat deamon in DS1 ... I hate that guy and where they placed it
Crash is significantly easier unless you are trying to get 100% completion.
