Does anyone else feel they have to play someone strong just to keep up?

Ok I admit it, my most played champion right now is Yasuo.

I like him as a character and that's why I started playing him...but...

I feel like he's one of the few champions I can play these days if I actually want to have a shot at winning because Riot doesn't really touch him and he's strong.

I used to like playing mages mid a lot but recently I feel like they just can't do enough to really win the game because so many new releases are very popular really strong.

So...yea...title.

I've felt this way for a while and I'm curious if anyone else thinks the game is heavily in favor of just playing who's strong? Like I know games have metas, but it just feels so much worse here.
