Since they are so cheap, and tanks already feel bad no matter what, Im considering using them

What if I just went support items like three or four items into build. I mean support items are crazy cheap, and they give decent tank stats. Some of them even synergize with tanks. Like item 3190 If I know how to read properly, a cho gath would be able to give a nice chunky sheild because 20% of something like even a small cho, 20% of 5000 is 250 on top of the base sheild which is pretty good. item 3107 Also seems like a good "why not" it gives health and it has good cdr which is nice for tanks, plus not to forget the active. What do you guys think? I mean I just thought that tanks feel kinda bad so you might as well put them to good use.

Side note: when I say tanks, I mean tanks in the jungle/top

Seeing how most of them have no kill presense, might as well. Also I knew support items were cheap but I didnt know that those two were 2100/2200. I lowkey feel like trolling and buying redemption to ks kills while being dead. Wait. If im dead, and I sell an item buy redemption, can I use it? cause If i remember correctly you can use it while being dead. How does that work?

AFAIK Locket/Knight's Vow both showed up regularly as a 3rd/4th/5th item for some tanks when they were played. It's not a bad thing to get.

King Lego1/22/2019, 6:09:08 PM5 votes

But wouldn't you be missing a great load of HP and armor? The items may be decent, but i don't think they are close to items like item 3742 or item 3001

Honestly, I never thought about this before...while i'm no tank main, i do enjoy playing the class. Might try it on Urgot, but i might be a bad idea (he's not a tank though, so maybe Ornn).

Used to be a shen main for so long before I just gave up since your q's to weak to farm under tower, but yah locket was a great 3 item a couple diamond streamers I watched would pick it up too and dont forget when pro games would have junglers buyitem 3109

For Locket: Gargoyle Stoneplate-Locket tanks were (pro play) meta for the longest time until some coding changes to how the bonus hp from stoneplate was working. For Redemption: Play Tank Karma Top and go for it. It is not a good item for most tanks because of minimal hp and 0 resistances.

I'd like to point out that your math is wrong, 20% of 5000 is 1000, and that is the very reason Cho with Locket was so strong. He was running around and oneshotting adcs with his R and then giving his entire team 1200+ shields every fight.

Everyone who thinks tanks are weak are so delusional.

Im sorry what? While i can agree with stuff like Locket, Zeke's and Knight's vow, Redemption seems woefully inefficient on a tank.

Bouncemaster Zac1/23/2019, 3:12:32 AM1 votes

Locket is, in fact, incredibly strong on Cho due to the bonus hp scaling.

On my last Caitlyn game there was an Anivia trolling with item 3107 lul, she was ahead of your plan [slayer-jinx-wink]

Picking up support items as a tank solo laner or jungler is not a bad idea.

Picking up 3-4 support items as a tank solo laner is. You honestly just give up way too much in being able to hold off a push or soak damage

Recently a few tanks are actually pretty good.

Try Ornn , Shen , Sion.

You will find hope in tanks again

The only tank that can go full support items top is Trundle honestly. Other than that, you will be too far behind and most likely be melted even easier with the support items, since they give less stats than actual tank items.

Chogath + item 3190 + item 3193 used to be a thing. To be honnest I often buy item 3109 on tanky junglers/top.

When I played Rammus I would go Locket sometimes its an underrated item. I think its a good lategame item for most engage tanks

Cronofuge1/23/2019, 4:21:51 PM1 votes

Tanks have been poaching support items longer than adcs have poached assassin items.

How do you think locket got into the sorry state it is in? Remember when knights vow used to have good stats?

Picking the most gold efficient item for your game is exactly what you should be doing. Just remember there's a time and a place for each item.

Daftedpunk1/23/2019, 10:11:09 PM1 votes

Buying support items on tanks is definitely like many other strategies in this game is situational. One of the reasons tanks dont out right buy support items is beacuse they dont scale well into late game and they lack raw stats that tank items provide. Many tanks also dont directly benefit from items such as redemption, but for items like knights vow, zeke's, and locket it depends on what tanks you are playing. Knights, zeke's, and locket all promote a body guard type of play style and for many tanks like malphite, olaf (when he goes full tank) , zac , sejuani, and etc these items dont compliment their type of play style. For champs like maokai and volibear I would say that these items become way more viable of a buy depending if ur adc or carry is fed or the enemy team consists of 1 assassin and 2 divers maybe like a j4 Jung talon mid and malphite top. I would also say its dependant on your own teams composition as well. Being able to buy items like knights and etc allow damage supports like mages and pyke to go that full damage build. Basically having cake and eating it too. Ornn beacame a great flexible tank after his reworked passive proidivng a 10% increase from items , so items like the upgraded locket with that ten percent basically become a regular tank item with a very useful health scaling passive.

It's not like gargoyle active locket shields were never a thing
