Before hextech chests in league players would get 1-2 free skins a year for honor and rank.

You can get 52 hextech chests per year. Even if only a quarter are skin boxes, you'd still get like 4 skins just by rerolling the shards. And this is on top of the free skin you still get for ranked every year.

And that's not including events that randomly give out extra loot boxes. Which we didn't have in the past either.

Hextech loot boxes have been beneficial to players.

While what you've said is true...

  • It was used as the basis for Prestige skins where the ideal method is paying into loot boxes, feeding the gambling mechanics and Riot's profits.
  • It was made into the basis for the currency system which was deliberately done to encourage champion sales by making the grind more frustrating.
  • It is still based off an exploitative practice that has plagued gaming as a whole and companies refuse to regulate that practice.

yeah unless you're someone like me who can't even open any hextech chests lest they get driven into buying more lootboxes with money, real nice to have any and all IP gain be linked to gamble boxes so that I can't even open them

And I am fairly certain it was very beneficial for Riot as well. The thing I would really like to be changed is to remove champ shards from the drop pool. I wouldn´t care If they reduced the number of chests per year or raised the OE costs a little to compensate for the higher chance of getting OE loot out of chests.

but the fact that these chests, you sometimes have to grind really hard for, have a chance to become completely worthless to most players is absolutely demotivating and has the exact opposite effect of what the system tries to achieve, to get you engaged.

I draw the line at emotes.

Yes beneficial but not noticable. A vast majority of players are not unlocking 52 chests a yea or even half that. of the small amount they are getting mised the the different amount of skins there are how many are getting skins they would use. So far the only skin ive gotten from the crafting is hextech Annie and i ended up dishing out more money for that then if it were just a regular skin i could buy. Then finally Orange essences, the conversion is horrible so even if you somehow get a skin shard you may consider using GL getting it unlocked. If they removed the system tommorow hardly anyone would notice the difference.

If you want more skins just use this https://gamekit.com/?reflink=3b29-124466092 . it is a site were you can do quests for points and those points can be exchanged for rewards like skins for lol or for cs-go

I can't, I can at most get 1 or 2 because I only play 2 champions and since there is no mastery chest reset for a champion each month, I cannot gain more of them.
