If Nier Automata takes place 3000 years in the future why do the androids use swords?

If Luralin doesn't seem to like Nier Automata, why does he keep starting discussions about it?

I mean if you look back on the story it starts with a child prostitute being possessed by an evil flower, goes onto a story about god trying to destroy the world, goes onto people putting their souls in books to escape a disease, and into Nier Automata

Do the swords really strike you as that odd?
