thats the main theory how to play it, indeed, but if you actually play it, it can be hard vs skilled players, especially at top lane, since the lane is waaaaay longer than midlane which is why you cant stack Q really well since many toplaners can All In you, and you are likely to get ganked since you autopush the lane kinda

You don't build Trinity as APNasus. You buy Ludens, the only Sheen Item you buy is IBG if you are behind vs AD Champs or Lich Bane if you are even/ahead.

i play ap, so i can provide the team waveclear, so the enemy cant push you really well, also i can do massive poke dmg as well in skirmishes

i prefer AP over AD nowadays cuz as AD u can splitpush only and this work only really well, if your team knows what they are doing or arent that behind and since there are so many counterplays vs nasus, you cant really farm well early on or cant stack properly (mostly in higher elo ofc)

and if you get camped/behind as AD Nasus, you wont be able to provide any utility to the team like no poke damage, no Q damage, no splitpush and so on while as AP you can still help to clear minions at skirmishes or poke the enemies

this i can tell you by experience like I have played AD nasus vs malphite since it was ez to stack vs him but we lost the game due to the previous reasons and I was like, if i was AP nasus instead, I could provide the team more utility....now I will play AP Nasus only over AD xd

1st item must be always ludens echo, because it gives you extra poke dmg and the mana, also a sidenote:

if you got oom in the laning phase but dont have enough gold for Lost Chapter and the lane is really pushed, just go back and buy mana crystal, this item alone already gives you more sustain pokes and stuffs and it helps the laning phase really a lot

2nd item I mostly always go for Zhonyas, why? since you are melee and more squishy than AD Nasus you need some protection, also with stopwatch/zhonyas you can do some plays and bait CDs from the enemies, e.g.:

I poke them and suddenly the enemies have decided to engage on me, I have popped my ultimate to get health and resistances before they have cc'ed me, before my health would go to zero, I have used zhonyas and the enemies are waiting for me, since most of them will stay near me, my ultimate will still do lots of damage in the "golden form", especially since I am AP which most ppl kinda forget, then after zhonyas I will flash out if it was available

in the meantime my team can focus them easily while they got disctracted and most of the time, I still survive7

3rd item depends on the situation, if your team is snowballing and the enemies got lots of heal, go for morellos

if your team is behind, go for rylais to provide more CC etc.

no lichbane: I always wont build lichbane since you dont splitpush as AP Nasus, with AP Nasus you always want to group and poke and lichbane doesnt provide anything for poke, so there are better items like morellos for magic pen + griev. wound or rylais for more tankyness and CC
