Is "Matchmaking" where we're headed?

Hi guys,

What is everyone's view on this?

I find all games now are pretty much about matchmaking systems rather than the original way it was in Counterstrike 1.6, Battlefield 2 (the original), Call of Duty 2, Warcraft 3...

However now it's all these clunky matchmaking systems. Why can't I just find a game from a list? We all used to do that just fine and it was a lot faster as I could CONTROL who can come to my game, in addition to who the enemies all were!

Thoughts?

Any competitive game will have a actual matchmaking system as the primary method of playing. That's because the primary purpose of the game is to face you against players where both sides have a roughly 50% chance of winning and the match is fair. Randomly picking a game does not have that.
