Community poll: Are women equal or do they require extra protection?

"But Sid! Politics and social issues aren't allowed on boards!"

But wait! If they pertain to video games and more specifically League of Legends, then it's ok. That means this thread is allowed (but given Riot's recent on-the-fly rule changes, who knows?)

This poll asks one simple question: Do you think men and women should be treated equally in pro play, or do you think women need extra protections in pro play?

Teams get under each other's skin all the time. That's part of sports, and esports.

It's one or the other. It cannot be both.

The choices given are biased. The warning was given presumably under the notion of equal protection. It supposed to be a friendly competitive game at the level they were playing. I can see why Riot would issue a warning over it. Regardless of how everyone feels about the women being there playing or whatever, it at least looks sexist because girls playing support is a meme in gaming. If they didn't issue the warning, I feel like people would have freaked out the other way about it. It wasn't an actual punishment. I think it was just a message in general. "Don't do this." Sort of a compromise to try to get a point across just in case it was sexist. There's no way to prove whether it was or wasn't. I think Riot was just being cautious, especially after the stuff they've been in the news for.

They probably would have done something similar if there was a gay player stirring things up by playing then the first team they face bans the meme gay champs. Taric, Varus, Ez, etc.

Equality, always. Just because we live in a society that values women more highly based on ancient instinct, does not mean that we should ignore the bases of those instincts:

Men are capable of fathering numerous children within days, hours, or even minutes of each other, whereas women are only capable of having 1 child every ~9 months [identical / fraternal siblings not withstanding], until they are ~40 years old, and women carry the children inside their bodies until they are born, which, in the interest of promoting the growth of humans as a species, requires us as a whole to provide them with extra protections.

THAT SAID, expanding these protections to any aspect of society outside child-rearing is reprehensible and shameful, and runs UNARGUABLY contradictory to the concept of equality.

This shouldn't even be a debate, because Riot should never have allowed that team to play. There are rank restrictions on who can be put on pro rosters for a reason. Doing such a stunt against a legit team could have easily earned them a loss, which imo would be the best kind of justice for this.

That said, even if the team you are playing against is a joke, I think that we should expect teams to maintain some level of professionalism.

Ultimately I'd like to see sanctions against the management that decided to field such a joke of a team. At the bare minimum, loss of branding for the season I think would be appropriate.
