My friend gave me a box he got from an ISP contractor who "forgot" it there because it was the wrong color and they were told not to use it any more. It's one of those 1000ft boxes, not sure how much is left in it, but it's come in handy.
The former. I don't even see why it mattered because it's just a beige/creme color. It's standard Cat5e cable.
You shouldn't see any improvement from swapping out the cable, unless the cable you've been using is REALLY fucked up.
When it comes to residential internet most of the time the issue is with the ISP. If it's not the ISP then it's because you are on wireless.
I can make my own cables, in fact one job I had I was making cables because my employer didn't want to buy premade ones. Unless you have a very strict custom length requirement and good test equipment you're better of with factory-made cables.
