How does ranked armor upgrade work?

I was reading the wiki on ranked armor upgrades and had a few questions

Just progressed enough to earn my first upgrade. Didnt play last two splits. Currently in promos to s3. And i earned the Silver 3 split 1 armor

The wiki says i should have earned the current splits armor. Also why am i getting a armor upgrade in silver 4 also.

Armor upgrades are just part of the split rewards, they are applied to all ranks. You only get whatever is available to you depending on the splits you play.
