waiting for WoW4/13/2018, 6:30:28 PM4 votes

12 million subscribers during WoW's peak during WOTLK down to 5.5 million subs and only projected to continue declining from 2015.... that is by all means a dying game.

It doesn't matter if Blizzard keeps releasing new expansions for the group of people that continue playing, they cannot grow their playerbase, and the players they do have are slowly leaving.

But if you ask someone on the streets if they know what WoW even is then they'd most likely say no lol

Mods should move all the "Lol is dying" posts to Memes & Games Boards.

WoW basically is dead, at least compared to when it was at its prime (which was Wrath Era).

The big problem is that they basically had killed off so many of the characters they needed to redo old ones into new villains.

WoW is dead though. The game that stole its name is nothing but a cheap imitation cash grab.

So successful they had to cave on wow classic because so much of their userbase is playing on private servers without the cancer.

maybe league will follow suit and revert to S2 so they can try again without fucking it all up :^)

It's pretty obvious it's playerbase is shrinking.

The real question is what defines when a game is "dying" ? When it stops growing players?

REDCOLORED4/13/2018, 6:19:06 PM2 votes

I mean this is league of legends board who cares about wow here... as i know rules says board must have concept only about league of legends

a game can be dying without completely going dead. the following for WoW isnt nearly what it used to be, not even close, but honestly i think thats more because people are starting to realize that MMO's are crap

There is this notion that gamers follow, that if they dont play somethign anymore, then its dying. They follow this with WoW. Meanwhile Legion, the last expansion, sold 3.3 million copies on Launch Day: tying the franchises all-time record. I'm pretty sure there are things you can google that show even Warlords, one of the worst expansions, had over 10 million players early on. I'm sure Legion had a ton, too, if they are tying their own franchise records.

Just because you no longer play something, does not mean its "dying." WoW is alive and well, surprisingly. Just because you can't wring out 2 years of new experience like you did back in classic/TBC, doesnt mean the game is doing bad. I'm sure they will sell a ton of Battle for Azeroth expansions, too.

WoW is not going anywhere anytime soon. It might not be the king of the land anymore, but thats more to do with MMO's falling out of favor than WoW specifically. It happens to all genres. When I was growing up, everything was Quake/Unreal/RTS's. Those genre's aren't popular anymore. Same with MMO's. Its just not "THE" popular genre anymore like it was back in the day. They still do pretty damn respectable if they are matching their own franchise records on Day 1 sales.
