Hot Take/Unpopular Opinion: Twitch Streamers exaggerate League toxicity

Okay, this is kind of a two-parter:

  1. League of Legends' community is no more toxic or less toxic than any other online game out there. I'm not saying that there aren't problems in this community, but Overwatch has the same problems, WoW has the same problems, Fortnite has the same problems, PUBG has the same problems, etc. etc. Certain games are actually worse for toxicity than League. So the League community is fine (or if it isn't, it's as good as it's going to get.)

  2. Given that, when a former League streamer says "I don't play League anymore because of the community's toxicity," what they really mean is this:

"I'm not playing League anymore because I suck at it, and when I tried to build Zeal and Righteous Glory on Cass, I got reported for trolling and then they came in my chat an' an' an' flamed me and never came back so I only have like 3 views now an' an' an' then I created custom games so I only had to play with my fans! My fans on the other team were supposed to throw and then they didn't and they didn't donate and they didn't subscribe so I BANNED THEM an' an' I can't make money off of this game so it isn't fun anymore so Imma be a variety streamer now so I can get clicks and weirdo who will throw money at me for playing crappy games."

That's pretty much what streamers are saying when they say, "I don't play League anymore because toxicity." I'm so sick of twitch streamers scapegoating the community because they failed to line their pockets at our expense. Or in the case of certain Riot contract employees, succeeded, but the well has run dry, so they can move on, and need to give some sort of half-ass reason for doing so. Not going to name names; they no who they are. Suffice it to say, if you play like shit or int like crazy, we're not going to watch you, and we're not going to pay you. That ship has long since sailed, and that joke is officially old. If the League community doesn't take to you, that's on you. It isn't on us.

(Ahhh, it feels good to vent.)

League is one of the least toxic places in the video game market right now, I don't know what those people are still on about.

League streamers are part of a pool of 500-ish players. It's probably not exaggerated for them, but it isn't truth for most of the playerbase
