How come riot doesn't set up additional servers within the US?

Instead of having them all in chicago, why not keep one in the middle, and put one in the north south east & west to provide better ping for all players?

I lived in NM and still got only like 60 ping. Not sure it needs to be anywhere else. Chicago is relatively centralized with the majority of the population of the US, minus california.

I think it's more of a problem keeping things working smoothly if there's several servers in different places.

More servers in an area = smaller playerbases per server = worse match quality, longer queue times.

  1. First of all it was originally in the West Coast which gave a huge variance in pings for everyone who didn't live in California
  2. Where the server is geographically located is not a direct correlation of stability, as the network of internet that is a bit more complicated and Chicago is a large point for internet, putting the server in somewhere in the middle of the country will actually decrease stability
  3. Putting a server in each point of the country will split up the player base (they can't play from one server with another) and that means longer queue times and worse match quality

That would require spending any money.

I'm pretty sure Riot only has 2 EU servers due to legal reasons

The real question is, why did Riot waste money on a Turkish server if all the Turks will just play EUW and EUNE anyway and keep that server pretty much empty...
