Actual situation of new players [Serious Discussion] (I mean this is unironically serious problem)

Where are the problems?

  1. First of all, tutuorial. I mean - okay, looks great. But why Darius can kill tower by basically 6 attacks? And why there are walls on mid-jungle entrances? This is just lie. Also next tutuorials - you earn like 90 gold for killing minion at the start. What is that? Sounds like just a lie. Tutuorial have other problems, that affect next problems, which i will talk about later: No jungle tutuorial, which is extremaly easy to do and would be so usefull, powerspikes tutuorial - any other tutuorial, that would be usefull! We only got literaly bot mach with lines like "you need to kill tower", "you need to kill enemy", "you need to kill minions". What about controling the wave, harrasing, dodging spells? We need to learn modern people about modern league. Tutuorial dont even say that "hey, it would be nice if we all go to dragon and tum-tum him!".

  2. Smurfs, especially banned people. I got banned, so i made new account. I crush literaly everyone. What if i could say somewhere "hi, i am smurf, i dont want to make everyone sad so id like to jump over new players league :)" (if point 6 wouldnt be a thing) and system would kick me like 30 lvls up? And if someone smurfs, he will play like 20 maches with extreme noobs untill he will play with experienced players. And we cant jump over this. But we can jump over involuntery smurfing caused by bans. We can also force people that are not nice (flamers etc) to give new players advices, by form of overwatch known from CS:GO. This is idea that i get in ten seconds, i know we all can invent something smarter.

  3. Why i need to w8 like 4 days untill i unlock every summoner spell? Why i can't make as many rune pages as i want? New players really need this. Why game dont tell me "Hi, our runes are made to be universal for many champions. Visit page "KoreanRunesForLol.com" for newest runes for your champion"? Of course answer is that i can't project my own runepages untill lvl 10, so it would be useless. And this need to be changed! I as new player need acces to EVERY summoner spell, ARAM mode, my own runepages from level 1! This is like i would play CS:GO, but at the first 10 levels i could play only with pistols, M4/AK47 and AWP. Like i could in Minecraft craft only crafting bench, oven and tools for first three days.

  4. Jungle. Just jungle. On ~9 lvl there is big mess, some people have smite already, some people dont. So what w play? Double top, but one site got smite. Very good, very balanced. Also NO ONE knows how to play jungle, and i see Lee Sin that dies on BLUE! Sometimes at lvl 12 there are people that still plays double top, because they dont want jungle.

  5. Draft. Why not learn people that there are 5 roles by just enabling draft from first level? We could avoid lobby talks like "ok so i go mid, summoner 4 go jungle? No, i go top, you go jungle. I dont want jungle! So go middle, i go adc, then adc go jungle. But i dont want jungle! Who is support? How to accept my cham... [dodged mach]".

  6. Again smurfs. When someone makes stats like 30/4 is clear sign that he smurfs. Why dont put him 40 lvls higher? And all times they play champions like Zed, Yasuo, Katarina, Yi, that needs a bit skill, game knowledge to do such stats, which makes it even easier. Also smurfing should be forbidden (which also affects me, but this is sacrifice that i am ready for) for some reasons: Players would care more about main account, they would be less toxic etc More fun for new players Less flame in new players lobby

  7. Toxicity. There is no place with higher toxicity than new accounts lobby.

  8. Dodges. Half of maches are dodged. Including fact that u wait 3 minutes for mach can be a real issue.

If we want to keep new players in league, we need to change it. Riot, YOU need to change it all. Even if any of you agree with me. Please, lets discuss, lets change league for our younger brothers. Make their future full of fun and joy that we all know from league this game.

  • (1) It's a TUTORIAL on the MOST BASIC LEVEL OF PLAY. A lot of veteran players tend to take for granted just how information heavy league of legends is. There are 143 characters with AT LEAST 4 abilities and a passive each. That's over 715 unique things to need to remember. Plus ITEMS. League is very overwhelming to get into as a new player, it makes sense to introduce people slowly with concepts like, 'kill the minions for gold', 'kill the towers to progress the game', 'kill enemy champions for gold and an advantage'. ESPECIALLY if these new players have never played a MOBA before.

What about controlling the wave, harassing, dodging spells?

I'd argue the majority of players below Platinum don't even know how to manage waves. Hell, I see ADCs in DIAMOND who don't know how to properly manage their waves, and give up huge advantages because of it. This is something you learn as you progress at getting better at the game. How are you supposed to know when to harass or what spells to dodge if you don't even know what every champion does?

  • (2) I agree pre-30 games are extremely toxic. But in my experience within 10 games the system notices what's up and puts me in with the smurfs. I don't ever actually play with new players too often on my pre-30 account. Unless you play like a new player you won't be playing with them for long.

  • (3) Again, you're taking your game knowledge for granted. New players aren't going to have any idea what to do with runes. Even by the time they CAN make their own rune pages I doubt any genuinely new player will have any idea what they're doing. They're still learning what each champion does and what items do.

  • (4) If there is one point I can agree on, it's needing some sort of context for jungle. I remember when I first started playing and someone on my team asked me for a leash. I had no idea why he wasn't in a lane and I had to google what a leash was in the context of League. Finding a way to better inform new players on jungling is pretty much the only useful thing I think you've brought up so far. I think Riot just shys away from it because it's such a drastically different playstyle from trying to lane.

  • (5) I can't remember exactly how many champions new players have access to but I'm certain it's not enough to play draft. I don't think this would help the new player experience at all. Let them build on the fundamental blocks of, 'kill minion, kill tower, kill champion' before having them worry about roles and champion metas.

  • (6) Why are you bringing up the same point twice...? Again, smurfs already are typically places with other smurfs after they stomp a few games. Riot seems to be able to detect them pretty quickly as long as you aren't playing like you're actually a new player.

  • (7) Again, this is usually just because of smurfs. If your lobby is toxic it's because Riot decided to put you with the other players who had to make new accounts after being perma'd.

  • (8) Never had this problem, this might be a just you being unlucky sort of deal.

TLDR; The only thing I agree on is to educate newer players more about jungle, preferably when they first unlock smite. You expect too much out of people who have never touched the game before and you probably think pre-30 games are super toxic because you were put into matchmaking with the toxic smurfs.

I hate how few rune pages you get as a new player, and how it's "rune page or champion", especially when champs are so desperately needed to play ranked and draft pick to begin with. I feel like rune pages should be rewarded for playing the game, not as a monetary purchase. Every 5-10 levels you get one, then every 15 once you break 30, and then every 20 once you hit 90, and so on.

As for the other things, it's hard to place smurfs as smurfs short of simply banning them entirely. I think it should simply be a lack of level-based summoners, non-paid rune pages, and so on. It's sort of a holdover from the old rune system, where you'd unlock a slot every level until 30.
